hi all, i've been out of the cichlid game for a while now, but i was at the lfs the other day and spotted this guy amongst the crowd, in a tank of about 20 little JD's this guy had manage to claim a good third of it as his territory, i've needed something to replace my salvini and so this guy seemed perfect.

tankmates, 13 columbian tetras, was 12 but they've been breeding and one guy managed to survice all the snails, pleco and 12 hungry mouths to make it to adulthood.

still very small, probably about 1.5" looking forward to watching him grow he's already settled in great.

What stereotype? I could care less about aggression, and look more about general personality, breeding behavior, patterns, and just in general how much of an 'oddball' a fish is. The only time aggression comes into play is if it's going to be going into a tank with other fish. While my wife loves anything with color that looks cute. Regardless if it's a 1" fish or a 18" fish.

The only stereotype I see is that of teenagers and young men.

Nice looking JD, small yet. I am sure he's settled in fine, my JD has a great personality, well had, she is getting old. As far as the stereotype goes, I agree with Orion, it is more guys with testoterone issues. As far as the gf winning any fish battles, she already knows that she can have input, but the final decision is my hands. Although, she has pursuaded me other directions too.

LOL I'm with SK, I'm the wife and I'm the reason we have any cichlids at all, Hubby wanted neons (and got them and they died) and bumblebee gobies (we had them, they died due to a heat swing when we weren't home, he demands more someday) and the like... he's not real happy about me getting my own JD next week either LOL, but he gave me the "They're your fish" answer LOL. He's also trying to convince me to let go of my acaras and such to go full planted community with the 75gal. The plan was to move them to the 150, but with the baby, we had to sell the 150gal, so he will have to learn to deal. :p At least for now.

He's really looking great, phOOey...congrats!
It'll be neat to see him cruising around in there amidst all those tetras once he's gotten even bigger. I still can't believe that one baby tetra actually managed to survive to adulthood in there...definitely a true survivor!
