If you're looking in Calgary, try Gold's or Red Coral. If nothing else both should be able to point you to a local source.

d3sc3n7,
Speaking from experience, a lot of the sponsors either don't ship to Canada or it's cost prohibitive.

Even easier then! That's my backyard basically ;) So you need a ballast to run a 24" fluor? One lamp or two? 20 watt each? T5, T8 or T12? Is this to replace an old one or is this a new DIY?

I can point you in the right direction, just need to know what *exactly* you are looking for ;).

OK, the coralife fixture is for a DIY set up. The box in the middle is the ballast and the round things are the endcaps. Also pictured are the lamp clips. Those get screwed into a "box" style hood and hold the lamps. Around Edmonton I've never seen the coralife ones but there are other manufacturers of the same style thing. The store "Just Reptiles" actually has some on clearance. They are located right around the corner from the west end Princess Auto 163st and 111ave if I remember correctly. If you decide to go look, tell them Chris sent you for the clearance T8 Glo retro.

So far as other ballasts to replace your old one... I'd need to see the fixture to be able to recommend a source. There aren't many DIY applicable places in town I'm not aware of ;). Could you post a pic? Or I can send you my e-mail if you'd like through PM if you'd prefer.

OK, so that looks like it's an 18" lamp... Never seen the hood before though. Kinda looks similar to an Eclipse. Is there a big "box" or transformer that plugs into the wall? or is it just a normal cord? Judging by the rist on the screws holding the cover on, if you need to do any work to the internal components you'll probably need to replace those too. May even strip the screw head while trying to undo them.
