Hey, I want to get some cichlids for my 50 gallon tank, i have never had them before. I was looking at petsmart and saw Convict Cichlids and Jack Dempsey. are they good together? how many can i fit in my tank? and how can you tell if their male or female?

I'm going to say no because the convicts are relatively smaller and both are quite territorial. and 1-2 JD is all you can put in a 50G, they get pretty big

yeah edit my post. Breeding convicts would own a JD, but a breeding pair of JDs carry the same kind of nature, only they are bigger.

I'm not sure doing JDs and convicts together would be a good idea, you might be able to do 3-4 convicts, or 2-3 JDs
