i dont think its a red terror, the picture is of a fish my friend caught that is found in almost every lake/canal down hear is south florida??? :/
LMAO! then your friend caught a festea in florida... not the first time a fish got loose from one of the MANY farms down there ;).

Here's a link: Festa's Cichlid (Red Terror) - Cichlasoma festae
Best pic I could find real quick. (the fish base one was not in breeding dress). OK, so take a look at the spot just forward of the Caudal fin and again on the third stripe just down from the lateral line. I didn't bother to count dorsal spines or anything like that... 'cause it's a festae ;).

The other REALLY sad possibility is it may have been released by an either irresponsible or uneducated aquarist.

I am going to link this on the nanfa forum and see if they have any input, it may go along with an indepth discussion we are having about HR 669.

I am not sure what it is.. I am not sure if it is a red terror but i dont know.

I borrowed the pic and posted on NANFA to get you a positve ID on if it is native, if it is someone there will be able to id it quickly.

well after intense googling I would agree it is a red terror, florida is known for having established populations of exotic species living and breeding in local water ways so it would not be suprising if it is a red terror.

HMMM ok 11 views on NANFA and no responses so I will take it as its a red terror..lol

Ok here's another fish to name, only I don't have a pic.

It had a long thin body, like a danio or a pencil fish. Mostly colorless body with a single black stripe running horizontaly down its body. The tail was forked with a black edge. In front of the black was a line of yellow. It was probably adult size and slightly longer then the full sized rosy barb so... 4 inches long.

Any ideas or should I come back with a pic? The fish is in someone else's tank.
