can you mix???

has anyone had any experience with mixing any cichlids with rainbow shark or bala?

was wondering how compatible they were. i read on the compatible chart at liveaquaria that you would have to use caution. i was thinking maybe 1 small african cichlid semi aggressive or peaceful (and how peaceful are they really and will they mix with semi aggressive fish?) with the list i have below. would it hurt any of my fish?

never done cichlids before but have been always interested as they have beautiful color variations

i was thinking, Demasoni Cichlid (Pseudotropheus demasoni) or Yellow Peacock Cichlid(Aulonocara sp.) or Red Zebra Cichlid (Metriaclima estherae)

Those would likely make short work of your rainbow and bala if they were males once they mature. I don't think it would happen over night, but I do think that they would be constantly harassed by those cichlids.

I think dwarf/medium SA cichlids would be a better choice for the Rainbow and Bala.

now when you say that, i could mix a ram or cockatoo since they are smaller? i just dont want to stress the current fish i have but want to add something different. and if say i went ram, how many total could i add with all that i currently have and not cram them in there and they all still be happy?

and one last thing would i be able to mix a blood red parrot in with them or we he be WAY to aggressive since they get up around 8"?

i guess then again im getting kinda full on my tank. i think i need to go out and get a small 20 or 30 and split some fish up. i want more. its addicting but i have learned about cramming way to many fish ecspecially when they tend to be a little more aggressive so getting way to many fish in one tank i will never do again no matter what some people may think about cramming. my fish were so unhappy when crammed and when i read a couple threads saying that cramming is alright it made me cringe to hear that and ive only got a semi aggressive tank and they were talking aggressive tank.
