would changing like 90 percent of water cause the aquarium to recycle?
im kinda thinking no because doesnt most of the bacteria live in the filter and substrate? or would it just cause a mini recyle? im asking because im have a bit of green dust alge problem and from what i read one of the fastest way to get rid of it is to almost emty the tank and scrape ot off the glass because of you do it while the tank is filled any that doesnt get sucked up by the filter or vac will just reattache it self to the glass.

heres what i read thats causes green dust alge:
high po4 levels
too much light
ammonia
low nitrate levels
mc ca out of balance
if i missed any or im wrong let me know.

im reducing the time light is on because i have it on way too long (have no clue how that happened because my other tank is on a normal schedule). i have no ammonia and dont how to test the rest. also have hair alge if anybody have any segestions. This tank is a MESS!!!

No problem with doing a large water change like that from my experience.

Just make sure the new water is dechlorinated prior to filling, and the temperature is the same, especially if you have fish in the tank.

i agree,
i do at least 50 % wc each week. somtimes up to 75 or 80 %, depending on if i over fed that week, which does happen.
