Hornwort

Finally im gonna have a planted tank !
Hornwort just got soaked in Potassium Permanganate 30min and rinsing now and soaking in dechlorinated water i cant wait !

Hornwort is nice. Just make sure you keep it tame! That stuff grows really fast. It's also known to tear up the fins of fancy finned fish like bettas.

i like hornwort and i noticed that all my fish like to hide in it. but just like rexy said keep it tame because it will grow fast and block out the light. the only thing i didnt like about it was when it would fall apart and clog the filter.

didnt realize i havent updated here.
update
did weekly test with 40 ppm nitrates. when vacuuming, lots of crap, from plants mostly i think, never seen water so nasty. plants did the dieing off at the wieght as i was told would happen.
not sure how trim yet.havent trimmed yet since i put in. i love all the green real stuff ! lol
and i have tons of fry ,of coarse, with all those hiding spots ! lol

You could also try Cabomba. From my experience it roots way faster than hornwort or anacharis. Mine rooted strongly within 4 days. I must also mention that its growing good in .5 wpg. but more light is really recommended for it.

my biggest problem now are snails !
and yes it can be very messy ! when i vacuum my tank it plugs up the vacuum.
i did a dip but i dont think i did it long enough or strong enough.
BUT im happy no disease from it, that was my biggest fear.

Snails will die off if there is no food for them to find. Overfeeding will increase their population (for those that breed in freshwater).

Trimming hornwort is incredibly easy. You can honestly cut it anywhere on the stem between two "leaves" and it will keep growing. It's like a friggin starfish..it just keeps regenerating and growing lol

i still have about half the hornwort in my 20gal.
and snails are crazy !
im getting use to them though lol
i know now i should have chopped off bottom 4 inches of roots , thats were all the snails and water spider came from, even though i did a dip.
i didnt know i could do that then, but now i know.
my problem now is the snails are infesting plants, and inside castle with egg slime and i cant just wipe off like i can on glass.My castle has lost this battle for me. they can infest inside, then i have the problem i have now.
im thinking off taking all fish out when i get my new tank setup, and getting rid of snails by doing a complete cleaning in my 20gal. thats the only way i can win the snail battle, or i should say the war ! lol

also another one of my problems, ive fallen back into my old bad habits, one being overfeeding.Added to my way overstocked tank.
