Well i set up a 20 gallon long about 3 weeks ago, and am cycling with 2 zebra danios and 3 platys. it seems like the platys have ich :( should i just start over? or can i get rid of this disease? I looked at the tank before i left for work and all was ok.. but 8 hours later you can see the spots on the fish.

I would just treat them. Ich is very easy to treat

When you say "Start over" What else would you do with the fish? Flush them while they're still alive? Because honestly that's a horrible slow death.

Here are some links with the description of the ailment, ways to prevent and ways to treat. I've always just warmed my water up and did frequent water changes. I don't usually like using medications because I also keep shrimp. Good luck!

I had a touch of ich myself recently in my guppies so i bought the ich treatment and two days later its gone. so definitely do the treatment and don't let it go too long because then your whole tank will become infected and then u really will have a mess you'll want to get rid of.

He said he had shrimp...
do the temp raise and a little more salt. make sure that water quality is the best it can be (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, <20ppm nitrate) also feed a larger variety of food than normal, but at the same time dont overfeed. Do water changes weekly of up to 50%.

ich is present all the time you cannot get rid of it per say! fish show signs of this disease when they are stressed out. however treatment is really easy if you are dosing in a small area. the best way to prevent an outbreak in the long run is to get a UV sterilizer.
