Greeen tank!!!

Ok I hace about a 5g tank and I have 2 tiger barbs one green and one reg tb. 3 serpae tetras. and one giant plant. Anyways, I can take out 50% of the water suck the gravel and srubb the crap off the sides, change the filter stuff and a week laterrrrr the greeeen monster stuff is back.

With out adding anything and upside downing my fish wha can I dooooooo.

Buy a bunch of daphnia. Or buy one oto, let it clean the tank within days, then return him (he cant really be happy in a 5gal.) Consider getting a large snail that doesnt much reproduce in freshwater... or amano shrimp.

There are really a ton of things that can eat algae.

Ok I think I will go with the otto and snail but I don't think water fleas are what I want.

I'm pretty sure that that many fish in a 5g tank is the reason you are having a problem. That is most likely just too many nutrients for that small of tank. Most of the time to deal with green water or lots of algae in a tank, the answer is to figure out what is causing it. If the tank is somewhere that it gets direct sunlight, that can cause it. Also if someone is overfeeding or if the tank is overstocked there will be too many nutrients in the water, causing the algae blooms.

I'm not sure I understand what type of algae you have... ...

Green water? Cyano? GSA? An otto or snail may or may not eat the algae, depending on what it is...

Green water usually just comes before you have an algae explosion...the same principles apply to green water or a lot of algae.

how about pics...they will help decide what kind o algae problem you have. And the easiest remedy, like said before is to figure out if youre overfeeding or overstocking the tank.

One sign of overstocking is fin rot. not always true, but from my experience its common with overstocking a tank.

Yea, all my goldfish used to get finrot a lot when there were like ten of them in the 40 gal.
Once i reduced the goldfish amount to the one i have now, the finrot dissapeared on its own.
i think you had similar happenings with guppies?

if it is in fact "Green Water" then a uv sterilizer will kill the algae with no problems but since you only have a 5 gal tank it would be useless!
