Iam getting a strange noise coming from my Eheim 2236 ecco every few minutes.....It sounds like a swooshing noise...almost how my dishwasher sounds.....Is it air in the filter? I never stopped it from running since I got it 2 months ago and never brought the intake above water....I haven't cleaned it yet because I dont think its that dirty...I have a 29 gallon with the Eheim and 60 gallon hob whisper....Iam just curious to what this noise may be.....It just started doing it....And I really don't wanna mess with the eheim too much because I have heard so many horror stories about this fragile plastic handle cracking off while trying to open it.....If any one can help it would be appreciated

i dont have personal experience yet with the ehiem canister filters but i would open and clean just to eliminate that possibility.

Yea its just air, man. when you adjust the flow, it often starts to make that noise. leqve it for a day and all the air will be gone and itll be quiet again.
eccos are quiet. my 2232 did it too. all canisters including my Fluval 205 do this.

and are you sure you installed it (DOH) and filled it up with water then turned it on correctly? youre supposed to bring the plastic handle down until it stops on its own, and the filter will fill up all the way. then bring it back up and start the power. then wait a day.

yeah...I set it up correctly....But somehow air got into the filter after a little while......So today I took it apart and cleaned the blue and white sponge in old tank water and shook the splintered glass media a little and set it back up......It seemed to still have air in it and a reduced water flow.....So I gave it a few shakes and it seemed to dispel some of the air along with a bunch of gunk.....I did it a few more times and it seems to have helped a bit...... The water flow isn't as powerful as it was when I first set it up 2 months ago but its good enough compared to what it was yesterday. There is definitely a big difference.....I just thought for all the hype surroundings these canisters I wouldn't have to be messing with this so soon.
