tank cleaning (big time)

well lately ive noticed my tanks water getting green. and ive never really had that before so what can i do? maybe a major water change and vacuum through the gravel??? thanks

Green water is an outbreak of microscopic algae. It's caused by an imbalance in your tank. You have too much light, or too nutrients (fish waste or excess food rotting), or both.

To prevent it: Don't overstock your tank, feed lightly, reduce lighting. Or add fast growing plants (if you have the correct lighting to do so).

To cure it: reduce the number of fish in the tank, feed less, daily 25-50% water changes to remove the disolved organics, reduce light period.

assuming you have a test kit you can check your parameters, or take your water to a lfs... if the levels are good, you could probably just use some water clarifier
Water clarifiers don't always gets rid of the problem though. Just the symptom. It's always best to find the root cause of something rather than just treating what's visibly there.
