Alright so i have a planted 20 gallon long tank with some RCS in it. I had a snail who hitchhiked into my tank via plant. I have since removed said snail but it looks like a little too late as i have small baby snails in my tank. They dont seem to bother my shrimp, but i would like them gone. It is very hard for me to get in and get said snails as i have done this a couple times and they seem to spawn more before i can.

So the question I ask. If i get a loach, be it clown, dojo, ext. 1) will they eat my snails, 2) will they eat my shrimp.

The correct answer id like to see is "Yes they eat on snails, but your shrimpy will live another day." *thumbsups

Also, i have access to many types of loaches, except for the Kuhli loach which i would prefer. Id like to see an eel type in my tank, but at this point i just want to eat snails and save the shrimp. *PEACE!*

Just do the manual removal like said above. I did it and within 3 weeks I was snail free and I had a huge explosion from some plants. Clown loaches get pretty big and need to be in groups. They're extremely social animals. I just think it's wrong to get an animal just for one reason..to remove snails.

Also don't use any "Had-a-snail" products or anything marked to remove snails. These chemicals can be harmful to shrimp. The copper that is usually found in them can soak into your silicone and prevent you from having shrimp for a long time.

FINE! lol

Ill stick with my manual annoying snail work. Although i got myself 2 Black Kuhli Loaches that my LFS happen to have. I am in love with this fish and it already seems to be at home with the sandy bottom and hiding places. My only question now is, 4 RCS with my 2 Black Kuhlis, should i be worried with overeating on one vs the others parts?

Also, how do you think 2 GBRs would fare with both shrimp and Kuhli?

not very well if they decide to pair up and breed.
rams will attack shrimp, so make sure the shrimp have a lot of live plant cover. can be floating or submerged. driftwood is always a plus for everyone it seems. shrimp will love it.
good luck with your loaches :)

I was going to most likely buy either 2 males or 2 females GBRs so they wont decide to mate. As you can see there is a good deal of plant cover so i believe the GBR+Shrimp+Kuhli combo will theoretically work. The two males might be aggressive but im not to sure.

Any Ideas?

yah the shrimp will be allright in a tank like that. looks like two tanks in one with that substrate setup lol, great job.
One issue with the HOB is that they do get sucked in easily, so place a sponge over the intake or something...I found a RCS in my canister cuz it got sucked in through an unshielded intake. i now run sponges on all my intakes just in case. also if you decide to cover the intake please cover all of it...i covered the intake of the canister running in my 10 gal, and i though i covered it entirely, but there was one tiny spot that was left uncovered and an RCS SOMEHOW found its way near there, got sucked in head first and dacapitated...by the time i dounf the little tail sicking out it was too late...
So lesson there is avoid our shrimp being eaten by fish and the filter lol.

2 males or 2 females will be fine.

Hey Thanks for responding! Wasnt quite sure what you mean to get a sponge over the intake... if ya look in the pics.. i have one already ;) . I wanted to do a mixture of sand / gravel so my shrimp have fun. They love the gravel with the plants but they go treasure hunting in my sand and seem to like it. I originally did this setup purposely so that if i found kuhli loaches then i could buy them and they could go digging. Just so happens all the animals seem to enjoy it and like to have the gravel as well. So far everyone seems happy. I'll get the 2 GBRs soon sure they will be fine with it as well. I will let you know how the tank goes!
