Hey folks I have no idea if my oscar is male or female but what kind of behavior would indicate spawning? The reason I ask is I recently added a smaller Jag to the same tank (90G heavy filtration), and the behavior from the oscar has changed alot. While there is no aggression yet (will remove jag if this become an issue when the jag is larger) I have noticed the oscar taking a more submissive posture and digging out subtrate. The Jag constantly moves the substrate around but I have never seen the oscar behave this way. I had him rooming with a large rio grande cichlid but the rio had to be removed for its own safety so the oscar appearantly sees something in the jag that it didnt in the rio grande. I know that the 2 shouldnt be able to crossbreed but still curious about the oscars behavior.
Dont beat me up to bad..we all know I experiment and push limits in tank stocking in these experiments.
