Long story short, I'm thinking about rescaping this entirely by next summer. Once the e. tennellus micro fills in completely and I'm completely gone with the bba, I'm going to sell it off, get some curvier/branchier manzanita wood, and kind of place it in the same arrangement as my last scape, and cover the tank with all types of anubias, and most of my crypts.

For now, enjoy, as I go continue studying for my last final of the semester... and as I draw out plans for my next scape.

That seems like a ramshorn snail to me. They can self-impregnate and they give birth to live baby snails. I hope you like snails, because you will have plenty on your hands.

Stop dropping algae wafers in the tank for a few days/weeks. Your fish are spoiled. They like the algae wafers better than the tank algae they are supposed to make go away. I had to "starve" my spined pleco for over 2 weeks once to get him to do his job. He was a grumpy guy for a few days, but he cleaned the tank and then got fed some shrimp pellets and some algae wafers as a reward.

I really don't recommend a shrimp only tank. I had one, it gets boring as hell. They aren't as interesting as fish are. I had a tank with only plants, snails and shrimp and while pretty, there is not much going on.

Wow, these are meant for some pretty old posts. ;)

The ramshorn snail never did breed, and eventually died. I've still got it's shell somewhere.

The shrimp tank came and went already. I enjoyed it while I had it.

The tank is undergoing a rescape!
I'm in the... fourth step of the rescape, I suppose.

Step 1 - Acquire more interesting Manzanita driftwood pieces, and find a way to attach current pieces to make more interesting pieces. Done!

Step 2 - Choose some rocks to add. Done! I went with "river rocks" from the Guadalupe River. I spent $7 on 53 lbs worth at a landscaping store, as opposed to $2/lb at a LFS.

Step 3 - Get rid of the p. stellatus broadleaf and blyxa and acquire more Anubias plants, and a few other low-maintenance plants. Done! Donated the p. stellatus and blyxa to my fave lfs. Got several large species of anubias, and the "regular" anubias I already had has been multiplying rather quickly with the help of co2! I also have lobelia cardinalis, I think small-form. I'm keeping my crypt wendtii and lotus in here, somewhere.

Step 4 - Get rid of e. tenellus micro foreground. I have a ton of this stuff! I've sold around 200 plants of the stuff, and that's only about 1/3 of my tank.



I have most of my new driftwood soaking in the tank, so it can get waterlogged, while I'm waiting to finish selling off my e. tenellus. Once that's gone, I'll be able to add my rocks and start my scaping. I can't wait, woohoo!

When I don't feel like dealing with packing and shipping, I donate them to my favorite LFS in town, since the owner did me a favor of taking care of my fish when my original 100g tank cracked the day before going on a week-long trip, and since he's always given me awesome deals on plants, fish, driftwood, and supplies.

When I don't feel like driving that far out, I sell them to other hobbyists on plantedtank.net.

Sure you did! You know you were tubing the Guadalupe and liberated a few. :D (Actually, I've been planning to do this...just haven't gotten around to it).:( Too bad the Trinity doesn't have anything worth looking for.

Though I did go on a 25 mile canoe trip last July and picked up some nice rocks from the Buffalo River. Planning on another trip in six months and plan on bringing back more.

Seeing as to how I'm a geology student... with a 4WD suv that I know can drive on roads other vehicles can't access (b/c I've done it before ;))... I think it's a bit pathetic that I haven't gone out to collect my own rocks. *laughingc

Actually, I have a ton of rocks I've collected on trips, none are tank-worthy though.

I need to go tubing down the Guadalupe one day. I was going to two years ago, but didn't, using the excuse of "I don't know how to swim."

Are you still of U of H? At least I think I remember you mentioned that once before...Anway, same here; I've collected lots of rocks and most have ended up in several tanks. I picked up a few that were pretty cool from the Sulphur River (not too far from the Red River, south of Paris). Need to go back up there before they turn it into a reservoir.

Yeah, still at Cougar High :D. I'm hoping someone forgets to pay their tuition before the start of the semester and gets dropped, so I can enroll in the physics lab that I need to FINALLY be able to graduate this semester.

Most of the rocks I've collected are limestones, or very fossiliferous sandstones, so I haven't put them into my tanks.

Woo! Finally got it rescaped... The plants I currently have just need to fill in a bit more, and I need to get a couple more for the empty areas.

I bought 4 more BN plecos from someone on another forum, 2 regulars and 2 albinos. They're about 1" in size. They look great. I also added some terra cotta pots for them. A couple of them are hidden, a few others aren't, but will be once things fill in more. The batteries to my camera are dead, so as soon as I find the charger, and charge them up, I'll take a picture.

I didn't use all the rock I bought. Since I added more driftwood, the bn pleco I already had there (3", I didn't realize how "big" it was since I never saw it) has been out in the open more. She (I think it's a female) really likes the terra cotta pots too, as do my rams.

Haha, I'm still looking for the battery charger. I used to have a ton of rechargable batteries ready to go... but I lost them this summer up in Montana. I'm not sure if I left my charger up there too. : /
I'm sure the parental has some regular AA batteries around somewhere, I'll look for them later today.

Well, battery charger is still missing... I think I'm getting about 5 discus for the tank. I finally sold the skimmer that never got used from my saltwater dream days. ;) I'll find out tomorrow whether I get them from the local guy at a good price or not. They'll be juvies, around 1".... .... finding info on juvy discus has been a bit troublesome. : /

I always found juvenile discus fairly hard to look after, it's hard to find problems and illnesses (especially in "poor quality" store ones rather than from reputable breeders). Once they get past the 3 inch stage they seem to be a lot easier to look after. Good luck though, any ideas what sort you'll be going for?
