Hello,

I have a 25 gallon freshwater tank with, one clown loach, one clown pleco, 4 mollies and 4 neon tetras. I've had this tank going for over a year and no problems, I do regular water changes, check the water level ect.

3 days ago I started to notice little white spots on one of my neons, it looks like ich which on of my gold fish had a few years ago. I had some treatment so I followed its directions righ away.

Today was the day to put the carbon back in and my poor fish aren't looking any better, they all have little spots here and there but my poor clown loach Spot (named this due to his cute little unique spot on his side) is covered in ich and I'm worried I'm going to lose him.

The ick treatment says to repeat if it doesn't go away but a dose at 24 hours instead of 48...is there anything else I can use or do???

I need help, I don't want to lose any fish but is there anything in particular I can do for Spot, I don't want to lose him...

Thanks in advance for anyones help,

A.

Did you do a water change before adding the carbon back? I also opted to go with chemical treatment and that is one of the requirements.

Anyways – raise the temperature of your water to 82F; that will speed up the lifecycle of the parasites. Medication is only effective on the free swimming parasites, once they have burrowed under the fishes scales they are protected against it more or less. So killing them off with heat is effective. Even after the spots disappear, keep the temperature high for at least a week.

You should also pick up some Aquarium Salt from your LFS, I use the API brand. Follow the directions on the box, its 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons I believe. This will also aid in fighting off infection.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Aquarium Salt - Medications - Fish - PetSmart

Good luck!

Thanks, yes I do know about the carbon. followed the medical treatment directions to a 'T'...they also recommended increasing the water temperature - I thought I should do this for a week before using the medication - I know it can be hard on the fish...will definitly check out the salt...Thank you
