Is it just me?

Is it just me, or has aqadvisor really changed the amount of fish you can keep? About a month ago, I punched in roughly 5 bleeding hearts, 5 serpaes, 5 black phantoms, and a few catfish, and I was about 99% stocked. I even still have the paper I printed out from aqadvisor. Today, I punch in the same information for the same tank and get about 130%. I'd really like a few kuhlis, now that Doomhed mentioned it, and this is definitely not cool at all. :(

i used to use aqadvisor and although it gives a rough idea i think common sense is more involved. If u totally overstock your tank u will get some deaths but if u think your tank is slightly over stocked just up the water changes. As long as u got more than adequate filtration keep an eye on your nitrates if they get high quickly do more water changes!
it tried to tell me that my filtration wasn't enough on a 180l tank with the built in internal and a fluval 305 external which does 300l alone!!!??? i would say keep an eye on levels 4 a while and if the nitrates (assuming amm and nitrites are 0) stay low between water changes then u can afford to add a couple of little loaches!

Well, even if you overstock your tank, depending on how overstocked it is, a bigger filter is not going to help much. Neither will water changes. Cramped quarters increase fish aggression and cramp their skeletons and organs to the point of death. It would be terrible with 130% stocked, so I'm really aiming for something less than 105%.

Although aqadvisor is not perfect, it gives the average fish keeper a pretty good idea of how many fish to stock. The only people that need to loosely follow aqadvisor are the very experienced people that have kept fish for decades and understand fish care. Just my 2 cents.

What are those "few catfishes" you used?

I have been making very minor changes to some of the species in terms of bioloads but nothing drastic to cause a jump from 99% to 130%. I'm wondering if one of the catfishes you selected before received a significant boost in size adjustment.

Thanks.

I just checked against my log and none of those catfishes have changed their attributes since the beginning.

One species in question is the bleeding heart tetra though. I noted that attributes have been updated but I didn't add the details. I vaguely remember that I may have bumped up the size of this species. Timeline seems to make sense given when you tried it the last time vs this time around. So perhaps this is the reason for your % bump.
