Hello Again,

Last time I was here I received lots of fantastic input from the users of this forum with regard to my data collection endeavors. Because of all your help, I have changed my data collection process and, more importantly, have edited a lot of my basic definitions:

Efficiency Project (MOA's: How Many Fish?, Stocking Freshwater Aquariums)

I hope this new set of definitions proves more suitable and more accurate.

Thanks,

MOA

Hello,

Well, it will probably please a lot of aquarists to know that with my new definition of efficiency it currently seems that planted tanks are back on top. Currently, the two best tank efficiencies belong to Newman and ILuvMyGoldBarb. Both of these aquarists report their aquariums as being heavily planted. Nonetheless, it is far to early to say whether or not this is a general trend for all planted systems, but it is beginning to look that way.

Also, Newman, the specialty lighting is there for people who use halogen, mercury vapor, combinations of various types, etc. Essentially, if you are not sure that it applies, then it probably doesn't. *PEACE!*

No Problem,

I changed the survey question to include examples of specialty lighting. :) Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi,

Well, the planted tanks are starting to pull ahead in the efficiency listings. So far the data set is 50/50 with regard to number of planted tanks and number of non-planted tanks.

Current Transfer Standings:

Planted Tanks----15.87% Average Low Transfer from Biomass to Nitrate

Non-Planted------39.32% Average Low Transfer from Biomass to Nitrate

As such, based on the little data available so far, planted tanks (in general and as systems) are about 2.5 times more efficienct than non-planted tanks (this stat could change tomorrow :) ).

Thanks,

MOAS

Hello,

Please send in your data! The survey that can be found at the above link only takes a few minutes to fill out.

Well,

I have almost twenty entries in my data collection survey. This is a good start, but I would like to see a lot more. Keep sending in your data.

Thanks,

MOA

i would love to finish this survey but honestly i never test my water, so i couldnt give you accurate numbers, because unless something is wrong or im adding lots of fish at once no need for me to test, i have had a pretty stable tank the last 2 years, and another first half year of learning. (2 1/2 yrs setup) i use a 32w bulb that puts out 6700k. it is a plant bulb meant for freshwater and it is a energy efficient bulb thats why only 32w. you can count all my fish and plants in my sig. 35 fish and 9 shrimp and who knows how many snails left in my filters. im running 2 aquatech 30-60g 440gph 1 marine stealth heater, and i average my tank out now at 76 degrees. i use all the chem's in my sig

Sorry Tropicalcrazy,

This time, I need hard numbers from water tests because I am trying to correlate biomass and nitrogen compound production. However, I do understand a lack of a need to test water--I only tested 10 times in ten years of aquarium-keeping. If you happen to get bored and have a pet shop test the water for you (or you happen to get a kit), please feel free to add to the data survey.

Thanks,
MOA

That is up to you...

Part of the purpose of this survey to account for how people describe their systems. Consequently, I want people to describe their systems as they see fit. :)

lauraf,

I was just looking over the data that you submitted and could not help but think that there must have been an error: Did you really mean that your tank lighting is only rated at 1 watt? If not, please let me know so that I can change the data.

Thanks :),

Aha,

Yeah, the survey justed asked for total watts, not for watts per gallon. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

The data seems to be coming along nicely, just need more entries lol.

Oh, sorry - for some reason I thought it was wpg.
Looking forward to hearing your results! Keep bugging people to do it - it took waaay less time to complete, it seemed to me, this time around that the last time. Or maybe I'm just imagining things ;)
