Long finned red minor wouldn't stay long finned for long, they're terrible fin nippers. I'd avoid personally unless you've got more space for a biggg shoal. Perhaps red phantom tetras?
Cherry barbs would work in a 10 but don't shoal particularly well.
A few otos would work.
Tiger barbs get quite big and need a much bigger tank to disperse their aggression.
Fancy guppies + Swordtails + Platies + Mollies all reproduce like mad and your tank would be overstocked in no time.
Kuhli loaches potentially would work, but they're little escape artists.

Personally, I'd go with the plan in the other thread. Your gourami as a centrepiece, perhaps red phantom tetras or another type of small tetra or rasbora, couple of shrimp and maybe a couple of kuhlis? Stick that in on aqadvisor and see what it says.

Bleeding hearts wouldn't work in a 10g as I warned in another thread, they're one of the bigger varieties getting a few inches in length - too big to be happy in a 10g. I'd stick to something smaller. Also, personally I think 8 tetras is perhaps a bit much for the 10g, you were pushing the stocking limits a bit as it is so I'd leave it at that. You'll get a lot of joy out of that original stocking list and it'll work well.

You could always mix 3 and 2 red and black phantoms? Or maybe 3 and 3?

^hatchets again I wouldn't put in a 10. Let's not go crazy on the stocking now haha.

Silver hatchets are quite rare to come by nowadays - at least over here. They need a good surface area aswell and personally I think they look a bit odd in a small tank, I doubt they'd be happy with the small surface area of a 10.

If your local pet store is Petsmart, that stocking will cost you at least $40 according to their current prices shown on their website. Wouldn't you rather save that money so that the next time you see an aquarium the size you want on Craigslist you are ready with the cash to make an offer??

That's a very good point Thyra. Fish are getting more expensive by the day of late. It may make more sense to wait and then invest.

If you wanna stick to the plan of keeping the 10 running and restocking it, how about cories for the bottom? I still wouldn't advise hatchets in a 10. As I said, it's a surface area thing. As they rarely leave the top, a 10 gallon gives them very little space to swim in.

I wouldn't chance the paradise with the gourami, isn't your surviving one the more stroppy of the 2? I know he's getting on fairly amiably with your betta atm but you never know how it'd react to a new fish.

true, but it was just him and the other gourami and betta, would he react different in a community setting? and my lfs is called Family Pets. Its very cheap actually, thou i may have to buy the Phantoms at Petsmart which is next to impossule cause it takes 25 minutes to get there and 25 minutes to get home, kinda pushin the limit.

I just read up on paradise fish and although I don't know how expensive they are, it sounds like they are very territorial and are better off in an aquarium of their own. There is quite a lot of info on the profiles on this website.
