cloudy eye and possible fungus betta fish

Forgive me if this is a mis-post, as I understand most forum, it is protocol not to detract from a thread.

I did a search and found some posts re: possible eye diseases.but it was dated 2004, so am starting this thread.

My betta has a very cloudy eye and also what looks like a fungus stuck on his eye(s).... at first it looked as if he has a scaley coating over his eye that is coming off, sort of like if he were wearing a contact and someone sort of peeled half of it back and left it there, bent in the middle at 90 degrees, (i.e. half on half off with the crease smack in the middle.)

After watching him a while, it appears an orange-ish or yellow-is color on the eye(s). One of the eyes appears cloudy, the left one.

Then I noticed he has that fuzzy discoloration on / around his head, but i have noticed it under his jaw since pretty much since we first got hime, so I always thought this was part of his coloration / skin. However, perhaps it is a fungus or something that is spreading?

he also seems to have a bit around the eyes, like on the top front of the left eye for example in the first pic.

I had a friend who knows a lot more about fish than I (and also works at a pet store) look at it, he said it is not pop-eye, but looks like a fungus. Said he uses API Pimafix, antifungal, made from extract from the Indian Bay Tree, because it is made from all natural ingredients.

Bottle says

PimaFix™
Treats fungal infections and both internal and external bacterial infections. Will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter the pH, or discolor water. Safe for reef aquariums and live plants. For use in fresh or salt water. PimaFix has been formulated to work in combination with Melafix to enhance effectiveness against fish diseases

Also, he just got over ICK approximately 10 days ago… Re: Recent ICK, I treated with aquari-sol for two or three days, did a major water change and then used paraguard, as I found out the copper is not easily removed from the tank at least not in that medicine). The ICK cleared up in approximately 4 - 5 days, but I left the tank on 86, so he was in that temp for a total of 10 days, then I gruadually lowered it back down to 79. Actually the tank is now at 80 as I want to keep it at 81 - 82 from now on. I don't expect the ICK would have come back. (But who knows? Anyone?)

last major change was about a week or so ago, then a 15 percent change 2 days ago, did another major water change yesterday (60 - 70 % ) trying to vac out any remnants of littly nasties from the ick.

IT IS HARD TO SEE EVEN WITH THE CLOSE UPS....

I have used 1 teaspoon / 5 ml of API Pimafix now for two days, tonight being the second administration of medicine at approximately 1930 hours, so he has been on the meds for some 29 – 30 hours now, with a re-dose every 24 hours.

Looking at him today (some 30 hours since noticed and treated) he does not look any better.

Will post some pics below.

Should I be using something else? Should I do a water change, though the water is very clear?

Who can assist with this issue please….. my 9 yr. old is worried sick he is going to die. (I am worried it will not properly be diagnosed and treated in a timely enough manner to overlook her worries).

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Michael, I don't know a lot about this disease. But keep the temp high, keep up with meds you are dosing, and yes, small daily water changes are good. Did you remove the carbon from your filter? You should. Have you added a small amount of aquarium salt? You should.
Also, post in the general thread if you don't get any more comments by tomorrow here. Some of the most experienced fishkeepers here don't always check in the disease forum. Super polite of you to worry about where you were posting!

Thank you, yes carbon filter gone....i don't normally use carbon filters, only to rem meds... i usually have 2 or 3 on hand just in case...

will have to start doing daily water changes at what percent, though ? 20 - 25 percent?

yes, have added aquarium salt, like 3 teaspoons to 10 gallons.

as an fyi, i did a rather large water change, ammo/nitrites/nitritates were all good 0/0/25
ph was 8.2 but comes out of the faucet that way
switched to paraguard, as Pimafix wasn't doing anything at all,
this was last night. I was running late this am, so just a quick glance the betta's eye appeared a bit better.... my daughter called later in the day about 1300 hrs, and said he looked a little better...

will continue with the paraguard.... checked with seachem and they said using full dose 5ml / 10G with a betta is fine... only thing is since i don't know the life cycle of whatever it is i am dealing with, parasite / fungus or other, not sure how long to treat him for.
