Picked up two gerbils today for me and the kid. Haven't had one in about 20 years. Tore down a 14g tank to make room...getting tired of multiple water changes anyway.

Still trying to come up with names for the critters...

I had a black one and a black/white one as a kid. The black one was George (turned out to be a Georgette) and the black/white one was Pinto. They were supposed to be boys, so no lil surprises...that didn't happen!

They're lovely! I once looked after a gerbil for a friend as a kid.. was devastated to come down one day to see it curled up on the bottom of the cage stone dead! I was reassured it was a good 3 years old though.

Apart from that I had a hamster called Hector (lol, I love that name..) who was probably the tamest and most loving hamster I've ever come across, he loved me as much as I loved him. Had a hamster a few years before that called Fudgie who I only have vague memories of but I remember him being lovely. I've also had 4 rabbits over the years, the last one which, Phoebe, died just last year aged 9, no jokes! She hated us between about the age of 1 and 5 and would box our hands and growl if we went to feed her but then really softened up to the point of she wouldn't let me leave the shed without giving her a big fuss, and I was very sad to see her go. We had our own little system while I was cleaning her out, I'd clean her bed first, then fill that back up, she'd run in to flatten her bedding and eat some hay, then until I'd cleaned her open area she'd wait in there to go back in and be fed. She used to treat carrots like a dog would a bone, like they were the best thing in the world. Right now I've got three girl guinea pigs, Lily, Evie and Apple who have just hit 2 years old and they're just adorable, even if they only see me as a food provider and don't like to be handled much :p

I'm trying to think of any famous female duos you could name them after..

Jane and Marilyn! (Think Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) Or their character names, Lorelei and Dorothy!

Oh, bunnies. We had a bunny named Tommy who was greatly loved by our standard poodles. Tommy, when not in his huge hutch, got to leap around an enclosed patio filled with large tubs of herbs, and the dogs would nuzzle and lick him all over. He would them have a cuddle with us, wet and sticky from dog saliva, smelling of rosemary and thyme, and would just lean back and close his eyes, and start 'purring' (when they wiggle the back of their jaws so quickly they vibrate).

Don't know. Came home from work and the black one was dead. She had been acting lethargic and nowhere near as active as the other one, so I suspected something might have been wrong. The pet shop is 60 miles away so there was really nothing I could do about it. I hope to be able to go back tomorrow or next weekend for an exchange while my 14 day "warranty" is still good.
