I've never kept only 2 flags (had a dozen or more in a 110 gallon tank yrs ago, when I lived in Florida (found em in a ditch). The store had 4 flagfish, one female and 3 males and the males were chasing the crap outa her. I had planned on getting 6 or 8, but opted for just a pair. She seems much more calm now in the QT tank than at the store with all that attn. So cute how she follows the male around. It's almost like she's the puppy onna leash, out for a walk with her owner!

YOU FINALLY GOT SOME!!!!!!!!!

I'm so very very excited. That plant looks fantastic and I know you will be able to keep it thriving with all of your knowledge and experience! I just got lucky with mine, ha.

The Madagascar Lace Plant is a really nice plant. Is it usually hard to keep?
There are mixed reviews on it. This one guy I read about had absolutely no troubles with it and would be pulling it out of his tank by the foot. Others have a lot of trouble. I also noticed that with shrimp -- since I keep a variety, some people have ease in breeding and keeping them, others don't.

I would not call myself an expert with fish, my first planted tank was purchased in February of this year, but I've managed to keep my lace leaf going strong even through all the troubles I've encountered.

I think everyone should give a variety of plants a shot, I have terrible trouble with anubias, but some people can do it like no other..

lol i hear you on the anubias.

The lace plant is very nice! I was hoping that one of my aponogeton bulbs would produce a lace plant, but no luck for me haha.

The flagfish are awesome! I kind of considered getting wild ones from florida too, but opted for wild sailfin mollies instead. The male flagfish have really nice color!

Best of luck with both additions!

"They" say that less that 10% that are harvested from the wild make it, so that is not a good percentage.

But since they are now being cultivated on plant farms here in the USA, those strains that were able to make it in captivity are being reproduced.

That being said "they" say it is easier now to get them to grow, given the right conditions.

I'm getting a new (better) CO2 diffuser for the "Lace" tank next week. Just trying to decide who, fishwise, will be living with it. So far, two new leaves have sprouted.

Oh great information OC, that would actually make a lot of sense about the strains in the US. Maybe that's why mine has stayed alive.

Congrats on two new leaves already! It's going to be beautiful :)

On a side note, I want to move my laceleaf to my 40 gallon once it is set up, but I'm so afraid it won't make it, lol! It's been in that tank and same everything for over two years.
