reduce goldfish to about 5 in numbers. less is even better. make sure you only have fancy varieties, comets and commons will not be good choices for your tank.

in my defense the goldies are not only being used to cycle the tank, actually two of the goldies are going to be placed in a tank in my daughters room..and the other 5 will be going to a friends tank. I have been watching very carefully like I said that spiked over night. I wasn't sure when to start the water changes so I asked. I love this forum you always get answers quickly.

daughters tank is little 5 gallon put it's filtered for a 20 gallon.. so i figured 2 common goldies would be safe. to be honest i just glad i'm not in a huge hurry to put fish in my tank. my tap ph is over 8.8..i heard african cichlids are the way to go with such high ph. but even after looking that ph may be a little high..so i'm going to have to lower it no matter what..i might as just go ahead and deal with the ph and lower it to keep the I want. i figure maybe a nice piece of drift wood and maybe put some pete moss in with my filter and hopefully that will bring it down and stable enough to get the orandas I want. i really don't want to have to use chemicals all the time to keep it low. what do you think and is there anything that's not so chemical based that i can use to lower it..like a "home remedy" ???????????

Yes it is a word-meaning like a D#%k....FOTFLMAO
Lol! I know what it means I just wasn't sure if I could add "ish" at the end. I guess I can!

I agree with OC, a 5 gallon tank no matter the about of filtration on it is not acceptable for two common goldfish or even one. Once your done cycling you would be better off rehoming or returning the goldfish and getting your daughter a betta or something for her 5 gallon.

What forum is that from?
What size is the pond? I don't know much about ponds but shouldn't they be relatively clean?
