Do you have a rickety old house or something?

I live in a mobile home that is built up on a three-foot foundation wall. I asked my dad if the floor would support 1400+lbs of tank and water and he said that it wouldn't. In fact, he said he was surprised it's done so well with my 55gal.

Hey guy, quick question. I posted in the 'other aquarium creatures' board if you want the whole story, but I just need to know real quick if ghost shrimp are going to eat my fish. I'm probably being super paranoid, but I found some stuff online that has me worried...

Unless you fish have super long fins (like bettas) and they're in a confined/small space (like a small tank), the ghost shrimp won't bother your other fish. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if your other fish became terrified of your ghost shrimp, just because they're little turds. My 5" featherfin cat steers well-clear of my two ghosties.

Random Announcement!

My plants in my 55 are growing like weeds! Combo of almost 3 WPG, Flourish, Flourish Trace and DIY CO2 are working!

Congrats, Dylandrewsdad! Can't wait to set up my DIY CO2 on my 55gal.

I am going to pick up the saltwater tank today!!! It's a 30gal bowfront (thinking it's probably a 28gal or 29gal really since I can't find reference to a 30gal bowfront anywhere). It comes complete with everything, including live rock and three fish. The fish are a clownfish (don't know what kind), a blue tang and a dogface puffer. The tang and the puffer are going to the LFS because they both require HUGE tanks (the tang gets 12" and the puffer gets 13"...they require a minimum 125gal tanks). I hate only have two LFSs in my area. The only one that deals in saltwater said they "might" be able to give me a little store credit for the tang and the puffer, but no guarantees. I think I might put up an ad on Craigslist for them and if they aren't gone in a couple of weeks, take them to the LFS. Anyway, pics to follow when I get the tank!

Congrats to you on the SW tank! I want one REALLY BAD! My wife would be OK with it if I got rid of another tank.

DIY CO2 is very easy! Let me know if you need any help!

I have all the equipment to do the DIY CO2, I just need to get the yeast and sugar...and do it! lol

As for the saltwater...I'm VERY excited! I've wanted to try SW for a while, but just haven't had the money to start one up. This way, I don't have to worry about the start-up costs because it's all been done for me!

If you want to try breeding them, the Amphiprion ocellaris (the 'Nemo' fish) breed easily in captivity. Just get two young ones (all are male when young), and the dominant one will turn into a female as they mature. They will often breed without a host anemone (which are more difficult to care for for a new saltwater keeper anyway).

Grats on graduating to SW Paige. I'm pretty sure I'm a few years away from that myself.

The ocellaris clown that came with the tank is about 2.5" long (about the same size as Tyr, my GBR). The puffer is HUGE (almost 7"!) and will be going to the LFS in about two weeks (they said they wouldn't take him right away because of the stress of moving). I gave the tang and the three-stripe damsel that came with the tank to a friend with a 55gal fish-only tank (they'll be giving the tang to the LFS when it outgrows their tank).

Paige-What are you going to use for mechanical filtration?

Right now it's running an AquaClear 30 and an AquaClear powerhead (not sure what size). I'll probably be upgrading to the AquaClear 50 that is currently on my 29gal, though.

Yeah, because this is a small community much of the stuff further down the page tends to get ignored. This thread has been keeping people updated on random things related to fishkeeping for a while and would not fit on that page.

RANDOM ANNOUNCEMENT: It looks like my danios are spawning again. My male Sunburst Glofish and Male Leopard Danio are chasing the heck out of a fat female Leopard Danio....I wonder what a leopard glofish would look like?

Random announcement for today...I'm moving every tank I have except the 55gal and the betta tanks. The FOWLR is going in my son's room, the 29gal is going somewhere else (not sure where yet, but I think I might have a place for it), the 46gal is going into the living room and the 20gL is going into my bedroom. And I'm doing minor/partial re-'scapes on the 29gal, 46gal and 20gL. Go me.

Re. post up there somewhere.. I did think when this thread was started it should be in the lounge section. The lounge would probably benefit from the traffic!

While I'm here.. nothing to update on. I'm back home for christmas so will be out at the pond to check on the goldfish and see if any babies are surviving the ridiculously cold weather we're having of late (it's currently white outside which is unheard of this time of year..). Hopefully the new year will be bring some prosperity so I can get my 9g going! This also depends on whether or not the residency agreement I sign for my house in september allows me to have pets.. here's hoping..

Fish are a little bit different than dogs or cats as far as pets go. Even in "the nanny state" you should be able to swing a contract that allows fish.

No moving got done today, although I did get the "stand" for the 28gal painted (gloss black). Why did no moving get done today, you ask? We remember my torn rotator cuff, yes? Let's just say that I went to pick up a bucket of water I'd just taken out of the 29gal (first tank that was supposed to be moved) and must have picked it up just wrong because my shoulder gave out completely. So, I spent today testing out the comfy-ness of my new (leather) sectional and watching movies.

Aak, the tanks are fairly distributed throughout my house, so I think it's okay. The problem would be if the total combined weight from all my tanks was concentrated in a small area (like it would be with a BIG tank).

Dylandrewsdad, the SW tank is doing well. I've seen the puffer roaming a few times from a distance, but as soon as I approach the tank, she hides in the corner. Apparently I'm a big scary monster. Fed them mysis shrimp for the first time day before yesterday and she actually came out to eat, so that's good.
