A couple of days, tops.

Wonderful. I need to aquascape it, though so I wanted to drain it pretty low, do my thing, then fill it back up.

How long to you thing after that, and I test, should I put fish in?

Have you ever considered swordtails? They can be very attractive and don't grow very large (4 inches max)
No I have not! But they are on my list now! Are they cute? Cool is good, but I can't do ugly.:D

There are like 5 different kinds of Bettas! According to Aq I can put:

Smaradina and the Imbellis. But all the others are a NO.

Thoughts? I think Bettas are so pretty!

Yeah, tiger barbs only belong in a semi-aggressive tank (or a species-only tank) with fish that are as mean as they are or that can stand up to them. Case in point, my 46gal bowfront is going to be a semi-aggressive community with tiger barbs and a pair of kribs (plus a few bottom-dwelling species that the tigers won't bother). In fact, unless you get your tigers really small and your gourami really big, you're going to have serious issues there as well.

If you like the look of the tigers, but don't want the aggression, try the black ruby barb. Same basic coloring and shape as the tiger barb, but FAR less aggressive.

So I have been thinking and I am not sure I can give up my two Leleupi and my Blue Dolphin.

Which means that I would have to stick with Cichilids....but then do I have to have lots of rocks for them to hide in?

Decisions Decisions...

I guess it depends on the coloration variety you get. I think most of them are very pretty when it comes to coloration.

Heres some links to pictures of swordtails - Pineapple

Marbled
Koi
Red
and much much more!

OMG. I love them! Thanks so much! I pretty much know nothing about small fish. Are these schooling fish? Should I buy more than one?

Your article stated to buy in groups of 5. So it will be done:)

I hope our lfs sells them! I am going today and I am so excited!

Just remember to have a 2:1 ration of Female:male or more females to males, and not all the males have swords at the stores, so sex them by the anal fin (boys have "tube" girls have fan). They do like the company of their own kind, so good luck!!

More females to male. Right? Well ~ I have never in my life trusted any staff at the LFS ~

Not after one year, they told me that Discus must be kept in salt water and with carbon.

Sex them by the anal fin? Seriously? Doesn't that require picking them up and looking?

I think you should just come with me.*twirlysmi

No, livebearers are one of the easiest fish to sex. Their anal fins are clearly visible without having to pick them up or anything.

Here's a pic to help you understand sexing livebearers...the pic is of mollies, but all livebearers are the same (swords, platies, guppies, endlers, mollies):

As for how many to have...I would go with one male and a harem of females (however many you'd like). That way you don't run the risk of one male claiming all the girls and then beating up on the other male. You also don't have to worry about one female getting pestered more than any other female.

Thank You So Much! I was actually going to look for anus and tubes! You should see all my notes stapled together, I am taking to the LFS, along with my iPad so I can see how I am doing my tank!

I am so excited!

But ~

Now I must catch my Fronts and Friends ~ I will probably cry through it all:(
