Hi again,

I have a 30 gallon tank with 4 red eye tetras, 4 tiger barbs, 3 bloodfin tetras, and one small pleco...does anyone know if i could add a few dwarf gouramis and silver tipped tetras to it later on?

Thanks! *laughingc

Only one dwarf gourami per tank unless you have the extra space. I wouldn't have more than one. You could also fit a pearl gourami in that tank, which you can keep multiple of. Pearls are bigger though.

Check this site out to guess your bio-load: AqAdvisor - Intelligent Freshwater Tropical Fish Aquarium Stocking Calculator and Aquarium Tank/Filter Advisor
Just remember that the site isn't perfect, but you should pay attention to its warnings.

I really wouldn't keep four tiger barbs in that tank. It's a recipe for disaster later....unless you have pacifist tiger barbs. Just keep a close eye on them.

okay thanks...i got the barbs from petco. They've already picked on and killed three other tiger barbs. thats why i only have 4 left. Do you think i can take all the tiger barbs back and get my money back from them...even the ones that are still alive.

If you bought them recently and someone at the store gave you terrible advice about their behaviour in a community tank, you might get a refund, depends on the store. Otherwise, most pet stores will give you a credit for the partial cost of the fish if they are healthy when you bring them back in.

Hi bcrowder11! What does your pleco look like? If he truly is a common pleco, you will want to return him to the store and purchase a bristlenose or similar. Common plecostomus will grow well over a foot long :/

Petco and big chain petstores are usually pretty good about giving you your money back if your unhappy with their "products", you just need a receipt.

yeah petco will return it, if you are exchanging and it's alive they will likely even return with out a receipt, I returned a bad power head there once with out a reciept and they gave me a new one, it was used and retail was like 70 bucks. Didn't give me too much hassle.

Petco generally only carries common plecos, so return him.

They sometimes have rubber nose in stock there. They stay smaller.

The common pleco is going to out grow the 30gal. So you may want to consider a bigger tank for it?
The barbs are not only more aggressive, but also more of a sub-tropical fish. They tend to like more of the colder temperatures. The dwarf gourami's might work if you were to get 2, but i say wait till you can move the barbs. Maybe once you move them you can add in a school of some kind of tetra or rasbora instead?
