Work In Progress

#1

Latest work in progress. I'm sure those of you that remember my tanks see something familiar? :) Super long story and it just had to work out this way.

Fish are doing fantastic as well as plants, I want to get a few more. The fish are thrilled about this setup and more active than ever before.

Hopefully updates soon with some new plants added!

Ty Laura! How have you been?!

WELL to try and make the long story waaaay short, I had a half-okay 40 gallon tank and a half-okay 36 gallon tank and thought, well why don't I combine them and make one 100% tank. The 40g needed plants, the 36g needed new light bulbs, the 40g has a brand new light fixture, the 36g needed a new heater, etc. etc. So I just thought hey, let me combine them into the 40g, it was a super quick process and somewhat thrown together because I had class early in the morning.

Although it seems that the fish enjoy a bit of chaos in the design, they are all about it.

Wow, looks really fantastic. Can you come and redo..... all my tanks? Haha.
I'd like to combine my 10&20 together, add some "bigger" fish and then move the paludarium into the 10...

@ryanoh, Your 40g does not look like garbage silly! I actually bought it from my LFS, I know a lot of people insist on maybe going on and finding cheap free driftwood and cleaning it all and what not, but I'm ridiculous and would rather pay for some odd reason lol. My LFS actually has some other GIANT pieces but one was so big it wouldn't fit in the 40g, really nice though.

@Laura, Milo didn't make it :( he passed away a few weeks ago, not sure why. But the original two are totally active and well! They are officially two years old (for how long I have had them, no idea how old they already were when I bought them)! Below the java fern and java fern lace on the left of the anubia I'd like to put some more moss or something there, just seems a hair too bare!

@Val, thank you! :) I'll totally redo them :) you should just go for it, I just had this sudden urge and that night switched everything over. I didn't plan it or prepare and I think that's why it turned out so well! You should just go for it!

hmm..... Well, If I got say, a 55 gallon tank, I could combine some of my filters or do a diy canister like I've always wanted to try.. and then I could use one of the huge leftover heaters I have- maybe 2, then my dad could build a lid and I could use a couple of my light fixtures, and then I have a half a ton of sand leftover, and I'll just get lfs to order some plants. There's that nice piece of dw in my closet.. and I have that cool rock.. and then I could get an angelfish and maybe gourami, more cories, more neons and harlequins.... then I could keep my fry.
>.< stop feeding the addiction guys! Now hopefully there will be a 55g out by the side of the road this upcoming pickup(2 months?)!
**keep your fingers crossed!

WOW! I am super jealous. This is exactly why I want to go to a planted tank! I think you just convinced me.*thumbsups

I do have one question though?

Are you running the tank without a cover? I think a see a little bit of driftwood sticking out. Is there a reason? I'm just curious. ;)

@OC I'll have to locate some of that! I think that would be perfect. I did see a plant at the LFS months ago that was green and purple, no idea what it was and I've been wondering ever since, I think it'd be gorgeous...any ideas? It was green on the tops and purple on the bottom and reminded me maybe of an anubia? Or that style.

@Val LOL you have all sorts of supplies, you obviously need to jump on a new idea for a 55! *feeds addiction!!* That is a setup just waiting to happen!

@Shroomer Thanks :) there is no real reason as to why it isn't covered, it leaves it more susceptible to stuff in the house (although I don't use cleaning products like that) and it evaporates far more quickly, but I have noticed that my shrimp REALLY enjoy sitting like RIGHT below the waterline, they did it in my 36g on the floating plant, and now are in heaven just like sunbathing up on the tip of the driftwood barely under the water. So yea, no real reason! :):)

@Dyland Thank you :) the driftwood is a pain in the butt though -- at least when trying to move it around!

Perhaps Cryptocoryne cordata? Only one I can think of that can kinda look like Anubias sp. Are the stems a bit purple too?

Hmmm, I'm not sure if that one is it. Maybe it wasn't like an anubia, but it was a bright vivid purple on the leaves. Not maroon or pinkish, but purple! The stems were just a darker looking green and my LFS doesn't have it anymore :(
