Hi All,

I have an issue with 1 of my dwarf gourami's.

He is losing his fins. This seems to have happened very very fast and I am worried I am going to lose him.

I have isolated him for now but I dont know what has caused it or how to solve this problem.

Tank Spec:
Tank - 54ltr
Age - 4months
Fish - 4 danios, 1 red tail shark, 2 dwarf gourami's
Water - PH, Temp, amonia, n02,n03 all good.

I know the Danios are nippy and always on the lookout for food so a possiblility could be them nipping, but the other gourami is fine.

Here is a picture:

Please help. Am I going to be able to save him? He is unable to swim pretty much at all.

Thanks,

Joe

That's a thought. What behavior have you seen when you look in your tank with the injured Dwarf Gourami (when he was better) and how long have you had him?? Plus, I don't think that the Danios would be the culpret, maybe the Red Tail shark?? But, if anything, it's probably the other Dwarf Gourami.

Could also be fin rot. That can progress very quickly. Very treatable, though.
Will the melafix fix his fin if it is finrot?

male(fin rot) and female gourami. In all honesty if anyone was doing the bullying it was the one with the fin issue.

Thanks for all your replies. Ill get some melafix tomorrow.

Ill keep you updated.

Yes, I found this information on FosterAndSmithAquatics.com.

MelaFix contains the natural botanical extract from the Tea Tree (Melaleuca), an excellent alternative to resistant strains of bacteria that are unaffected by traditional medications. Treats bacterial infections such as red ulcers, fin and tail rot, cloudy eyes, mouth fungus, and others in as little as 4 days. Also heals open wounds, ulcers, and damaged fins. Doesn't affect pH; safe for invertebrates.

Hope this helps and I hope your Dwarf Gourami gets better!! Keep us updated!! :)

Hi Guys,

Bought some MelaFix. Its really not looking good though, He cant swim now so I am going to have to hand feed him if he lets me. Im trying to stay optimistic but he is just lay on the bottom of the incubation box.

Will his fins grow back is the main question??

Really, thanks for the advice.

Joe
