AB is risky, if you get dead fish you are generally just out the money... even if they have a live arrival guarantee, you have to get them on the first try from UPS with a signature for arrival and photograph the dead fish with in 30 minutes... When you pay as much as you do on AB then pay to ship... then get something dead... well it's a bummer...
A batch of fish that I bought were imported directly from out of the country and arrived with ich. I sent a photo of the group before I opened the bag and they said to notifiy them if any died. I treated with high temps and no medication. Two died within 16 hours of arriving, the other 10 recovered fine. I photographed the two fish that died, emailed the photo to the shipper. The shipper refunded me 17% of my cost.
In my experience, AquaBid is not that risky. You do pay more, but if you want something that your LFS cannot get, and you really want that particular fish, its a good way to get them. I have never dealt with a 'new' shipper, only those that have been around a long time and have good feedback.
