I'm thinking about redoing my 75g tank with black sand or that moon sand. Maybe it's the same thing. But I'm wondering how much I would need to make a good bed at the bottom. And what has you all heard of using the black sand? Any good?

cant use it with soft bellied fish like cories, sand is made from glass.
you will also have to get MTS to move the sand around to keep it from getting gas pockets in there that may kill your fish
you can use pond filter sand though, a lot cheaper than buying it at lps
but 50lbs maybe? someone else may have input.

black sand would look very nice imo and id do it if i werent planting my tank :)

there are a lot of different types of sand...but you want a fine grain sand or else it will cut their bellies because they dont have the hard protection a pleco does. the tahaitmoon stuff or whatever by caribsea, a lot of people dont think it is very safe for soft bellied fish.

pool filter sand seems to be the most popular though because of price and quality

I used Tahitian Moon sand with my planted tank when i first started keeping, My Corys loved it along with my Kulihi loachs, Matter of fact i still have some of the same plants from that tank as well as Fish from 2 1/2 years ago when i took it down. i loved it... i never had any problems with it hurting any of my fish nor my plants. When I would clean my tank i used one of those Metal Back scratches you see in the cheap stores to rake the sand. Never had any problems and Im planning on doing it again in the very near future. Black is beautiful so is the white.. However having done Both Black is better. IMO

white gets dirty to fast.
and there are cheaper ways than p[aying 22$ for brand name when you could get same/better quality for an 8th of the price
and in your experiance you never had issues, but mass opinion is that it has larger shards and grains that could cut the bellies of soft bellied fish. its not from my experiance.
