I found a 10th baby. Right after I realized that they were orphans. Their mother has died ):
However, on the receipt that I got when I got the fish, was a small piece of paper stapled on. It said something about 'if the fish dies, you can return the fish along with a water sample and get a refund or exchange for a new fish'. I love Petco. All the other fish are doing fine, and the 10 babies are now all named Bubbles! I am sad that the momma fish died, but glad that she gave me 10 babies for free!

I believe Petco's warranty on the fish is only for 7 days - read the entire note. And remember - those fry aren't exactly free. You still need equipment to support them!

Sorry to here that SS, but Thyra is right. The Petco warranty is only for a week and I'm pretty sure that you've had your fish longer than that. Plus, if there was a build-up of Ammonia or Nitrites, they wouldn't give you another fish/store credit.

So sorry SS! I always seem to loose the mother shortly after birth too. Not todally sure why, I've read a lot of different things, not sure what to believe. My first fry was born 8 months ago, 2 days after I got my first couple of mollies. I now have 5 week old fry from 2 different mothers one of which died a week later and the other I have no clue who it was, just happened to find 2 other babies in my tank. Good luck with the fry! It's a joy to watch them grow.

Hanna, the mothers are weak after birth and if you don't have the proper conditions in your tank then you will most likely loose them. I never lost any of my females. I have a pregnant female separated from the rest of the fish right now by a divider. Here's a couple of pictures.

Did you buy your females pregnant? Or were they bred in your tank? All the females that have had fry in my tank I baught bred already. I've heard that one of the reasons they die after birth is because of stress of being shipped to the lfs then put in a tank for however long and most likly getting bred there, then put back in a bag and put in another tank where they give birth. The stress is just to much for them and they die. I don't know for sure if thats true but it makes sence to me. I havent yet had a mollie give birth that was bred in my tank but will in a couple weeks I hope. Two of which were born in my tank too.

I've had mollies and guppies give birth in the bag on the way home from the store and go on to live years and give birth dozens of times. All depends on the acclimation of the fish to the new water and the conditions in the new tank.

I ordered two pair of endlers from a breeder in California. They were all packed in one bag and lived two days in the mail to Florida. I expected two males and two females in the box and ended up with 23 total. Who knows how many fry they ate in transit, as there was no hiding spots in the breather bag for the fry to escape. All of the adults were quite fat when they arrived. They were with me just over 4 years and they breed like rabbits.

The fish was bred already in the store. I think one of my black mollies might also give birth soon. The note said that it is good within 30 days of date of purchase, so it should be good.

Baby fish are unexpectedly cute!!! If you think about it, baby fish are just mini fish. But when you see the baby fish in real life, the first thing you think is 'They are so CUTE!!!!'. (My opinion, sorry if you disagree).

I looked up endlers on Google, and they are really pretty fish. I want some!! I wonder if Petco has any...

Adorable SS!! I never bought my fish pregnant, I breed them myself. Here's a few picture of the Platy fry that I had a few months ago. They're about an inch and a quarter long now.

Picture 1) Hour old fry swim into my hand and rest for a bit.
Picture 2) 3 Day olf fry close up. The orange Platy in the back is the mother and the brown fish in the back is my Otocinclus snacking on my Amazon Sword.
Picture 3) 3 Day old fry in a net. It just kinda swam in so... xP

Also, Petco may have Endler's but they'll be feeder fish (live fish food for bigger fish) and they'll be unhealthy and infect your tank. If you can, try and find a smal local fish/pet store. If you befriend the manager (like I did) then they can personally order fish for you. I might get some Endler's soon. Wish me luck!! xP

P.S. SS, sorry for the opinion comment earlier. I was mad at my parents and therefore posted something rude. I'm truely sorry. I hope that your fry do well!!!! XD

Yes, several times I have been mad at something and posted something not so nice. Like when my fish died, I posted several things that I shouldn't have posted when I was sad.

I am getting to be friends with one of the workers. So far she has twice helped me with fish stuff, and once she helped me save a ferret that was being picked on by the others. The ferret cage is usually locked, but she let me hold and play with the ferrets until she had to go do something else. Ferrets are so CUTE!!! I am an extreme animal lover, so I think pretty much every kind of animal is cute!

I have seen those cheap inbred guppies as feeders but never Endler's.
The Petco that I go to (about 45 minutes form my house) sells Endlers as feeders and they look really sick. I'm gonna ask the manager for my lfs if he can order me some Endlers though.
