Well, the cory I bought isn't doing so well.

For some reason, it never eats, and last night I was turning the tank light off when I saw it gasping at the surface, belly shrunken in, then it just fell to the ground. I immediately thought it was suffering from low oxygen levels, so I ran an air pump in the tank. Now it's lying on it's side, heavily breathing. My mom suggested we euthanize it, but HOW?

Clove Oil. Or you can put a cup of water in the freezer and let it get so cold that the surface starts to freeze over. Break the surface and drop the fish in there. It should die within seconds due to the shock. I take it that it's too late to take the Cory back and get the money back??

Just my nickels worth, but I treat them like we treat people, seeing as how we can't ask fish to make their wishes known. Its called comfort measures only and in the case of a fish I would just put them in a bowl or jar with some of the tank water and let nature take its course.

I'd be curious as to why the cory would not eat. How long did it not eat? What are the water's parameters?

I have only had the cory for about a week, but I think it could have survived without food for that long. The params are 0, 0, 10 and I think MAYBE the cory poisoned itself. The barbels/whiskers on some species of cory like the panda cory have poison in them, and they can sometimes kill themselves with their own poison.
