New Betta!!---And a question

I finally did it! I got a Blue Butterfly Halfmoon Betta! (His name is Tyrion.) I've been wanting one for ages now, and a fish shop in Madison managed to get a few in last week. I haven't had a betta in several years, but I bought a tetra waterfall globe months ago in preparation for when I'd finally find one. (I just spent about 10 minutes trying to take a photo of him, but he's not being very photogentic right now)

I have a concern however... I've noticed that every once in awhile when he brushes up against the intake on the filter, he gets sucked up to it for a few seconds. I have a feeling that it's because he's been living in a cup for most of his life and isn't used to there being a current. He's extremely active (he flips out in the mornings and evenings when I walk over to feed him) and he doesn't have any telltale signs of a sick betta (his fins are nice and splayed out, doesn't act depressed, swims fine, appetite). I also don't have any nitrogen cycle readings right this second since this was just a spur of the moment post.

But as I said, I don't think it's really an issue, but if anyone has any concerns, please share!

This is what I've got for photos.. One is from accidental flash and the other is the least blurry. I'll have to try to get some of him when it's feeding time 'cause he's super happy to see me then.

Nice fish. Maybe a sponge on the intake?
Thanks! I'm not sure how I'd pull off putting a sponge on it.. It's more of a block than a tube.

He's a handsome blue feller.

They become strong swimmers given the space. Why not put him in your community tank?
Also thanks! I really wanted to be able to look at him all the time, so I bought that bowl and I've got him in my bedroom.

I don't think so, no. The intake is a box like structure that attaches to the filter at the bottom. I could try not plugging it in all the way, but I'm not sure if it'll work then, and I don't want it to fall off.

PRETTY!!! All bettas act differently (as I'm sure you probably know), do if he gets along with the other fish, and they don't pick on his fins, you could put him in the community tank like FreshyFish suggested if you want.

You could put maybe a bottle with slits/holes in it over the filter intake, then maybe a foot part of pantyhose over that to keep it on and keep the betta from getting his fins stuck in the bottle holes. Just a random idea...

Man that is a handsome one. Love the white fringe on his fins.

Maybe a clump of plants or such around the intake, to slow down and break up the flow a bit for him. Real or fake plants would do the same thing, though real ones may tend to be actually sucked up.
