We decided to upgrade our kids' 30g to a 55g. Came across a good deal on CL. 55 gallons, w/ stand, gravel, decor, hood, light, HOB filter, the works. So the guy (who turns out I have bought off of before) threw in this Canister Filter that he said he saw run when he bought it but never ran it himself. So I took it.

Well when I set it up in the boys' room turns out a 55g is alot easier to knock over than a 30g that way up on top of a dresser. So we had to rethink that whole thing. So for S&G's I set it up next to the 125g... thought we could use it for the fry.

So this Canister, it works. The brand name is "Newport", thats it. No model number or anything. The only other stand out feature is the amazingly ugly green tubing. The impeller makes a very minor noise so I google the company to see if I could order a new one. But they, apparently don't exist.

So this is an S.O.S. to anyone who could shed some light on this issue for me. What's the deal with this company? Is it possible to use other impeller brands to suppliment?

Ok the manufacturer is called JEBO. Yep, JEBO. I don't know why it says Newport on it. Anyway I found an impeller for like 14 bucks on ebay so I went and bought it. The thing is a nice little work horse. The lot I bought also came with an internal filter powerhead that puts out a huge flow and works. And a digital temp gauge that you plug up to two heaters into and it turns them on and off based on your water temp. It only reads celcius but I'll manage. I got like 4 old air pumps and some crappy hob filter that works. Two 150W heaters. All that, plus the tank, stand, hoods and light cost me $100. Not bad I'd say. I've been watching CL for a while waiting for a score.

Let me know if you have any experience with "JEBO" canister filters. I'd love to hear some reviews.

u got a better deal then i did. 200 bucks for 55 with stand light and filters. no heater. oh and it had gravel lol. but my friend needed the money so oh well lol. but i have never heard of those filters before. all i ever see are fluval.

I've seen them in use at a fish store in OKC, thought I've never asked or heard anything about them. The FS had 150 or so 10-20 gal tanks, and a few 50 gals, I don't remember seeing anything other than the ugly light blue \ dark blue canisters in their store now that I think about it, so I cannot imagine they are terrible, this was 5 + years ago though, they are no longer in business due to the owner passing away.

I did see them when I was searching for a canister for our 60 gal, but I stuck with names I knew.

Here you go, new set up. Right next to the 125. The decor is some of what came with it. I would love to here suggestions as to what we should do for an aquascape. I think we are going to use it for breeding... still in research and development though. There is a part of me that wants to go marine, but eh, thats a big jump.

Just keep the fire extinguishers and smoke detectors nearby that unit just for good measure.

Kidding! That canister probably comes out of the same factory as other name brands. That green tubing reminds of stuff you'd see in the 70's and 80's.

WOW what a good find! It's a good thing I don't see deals like that often. I would be in the back of the minivan and on it's way to my house. LOL.

Well if it catches on fire, hopefully the heat would melt the tubing and syphon the water out and put out the fire. I always have a back up plan.

It was a good deal. I was waiting for something like that to pop up. I got that substrate btw, it looks pretty sweet. I'll go down to the lake for some decor tomorrow and post pics.

I think it looks awsome. They were 3 bucks for a .5 cubic foot bag. Bought 2, used 1 and a half. I absulutely refuse to pay for substrate at fish stores for the prices they charge. Its insane. The marble was a little bigger than I had hoped, looks like 1 inch pieces but it still looks nice. Needed to be cleaned pretty well, but thats no big deal.

Nice. I hear you on the cost of pet store substrate. I'm very pleased with the pea gravel I bought from Lowes. I'd prefer the stones were rounder and smaller, but it's not bad and a fraction of the cost of pet store stuff.

I bought 60 pounds of sand for 20 bucks for my first 55. besides that all my other tanks were free lol. My 20 is the only new tank I ever bought. but I do agree normally petco or places like that really over charge. I get deals at my lfs cause I bring them a lot of stuff. earlier this week I gave them a bunch of plants so they are dropping 50 cents per neon off the price wich will save me about 20 bucks. that's y I like small pet shops.
