Ok, I have a 10 gallon tank...have a Pleco, 2 s. tetras, 2 lemons and just added the second of 2 glofish to complete my tank. I have had the female glo for a month now...just added a male. Since I added him, he has incessantly chased and nipped at her! Should I get rid of him? Is he going to continue to irritate her or will it ease up after a day or two...

Welcome to the site MomBB.

Many tetras can become nippy and nutso when not kept in a proper school size. Two of each is not enough, but you will be limited because of only the 10 gallon tank. I'm not exactly certain what the minimum school size should be, but I would think it's 5. I have 4 zebra danios in my 55gal tank and need to add another one or two because they are so spastic chasing each other.

You could do 10 small tetras in a 10g, but you'd have to keep up on water changes.

Also, I believe Plecos need a much larger tank than a 10g.

I agree, actually, but I'm limited with space and have two kids to please with fish choices. Actually, this morning, they are much better, swimming like old pals.
As to the Pleco, it was my son's begging wishes to get one, so we got a tiny baby one...and I figured by the time he gets big enough to need a larger tank, I'll have the room and money to invest in the huge tank of my own dreams :)

There are many different types of fish that fall under the common name of 'pleco.' If you post a picture, we may be able to help determine what type. Just as saying 'dog' could mean a 5pound Chihuahua or a 200 pound Great Dane, some Plecos stay small (a few inches long) and some get HUGE (like 2+ feet long). They require a lot of water changes as they produce a lot of waste.

Here is the photo. I posted in "beginners" because it has been a long time since I have kept fish, but I'm not exactly "green" I'm almost certain this is the type of pleco that gets quite large, but like I said, it should be a little while, and if not, my son will just have to accept this, and we will find him another home, I guess. Anyway,

Sorry the photo is sideways, and he is quite active right now, so the picture isn't the greatest...and I hope my last reply to you didn't come across as rude. I do welcome all the help and input ya'll can give me...because I am by NO MEANS an expert on this...just wanted to clarify that I do know some of the basics of this. I LOVE keeping fish, and long for that wonderful day when I can get my 55 gallon (at least) aquarium!!!
