My golden algae eater is swimming and banging the ricks and sides of the tank. When he lands he is upside down or on hide side sometimes. Please help his name is Andy and he is a sweetheart.

The behavior could be a number of things, but likely a water quality issue. How long has the aquarium been set up? What size is it? Any other tankmates? What are your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?

I would suggest doing a large (50% or more) water change in the meantime. Be sure to dechloriniate first and match the temperature.

He is in a 10 gallon tank and we do water changes regularly sometimes 50% sometimes 1/4. He is by himself in the tank. Reading all seem fine.

How often is 'regularly?'

Readings all seem fine.

What are the readings of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate (in ppm)? The behavior sounds like ammonia and/or nitrite poisoning. I'm not sure what 'fine' means for readings.

Until you discover the cause of Andy's behavior, I would do DAILY 50% water changes.
