I got this puffer a few weeks ago and he is in a temporary 10 gallon tank and is about to go into a 30 gallon. Ever since I got him, his belly is dark all day. When i first turn on the light in the morning, it is all white. After a few minutes, it goes dark again. The salinity is 1.004 and the temp is between 77 and 81 degrees. I have been feeding him mealworms, shrimp pellets, and feeder shrimp. Im about to get snails for his beak though. So what would make him be stressed?

I'm not sure. I just got a F8 puffer too, only Bruce is bright, curious, and pretty happy. The only differences I can see based on what info you gave is that his temperature is between 75 and 78, his salinity is 1.006, and he eats only blood worms (with a snail every so often) because he won't eat the pellets I got for him. He's in a 10 gallon too because I just don't have the money for something bigger.

What kind of salt did you use to go from fresh to brackish? Was his belly dark when you purchased him?

PH drops at night, and rises during the day, need to know your tank parameters before I can help more.

Need to know:
Ammonia
Nitrites
Nitrates
Filter size
That would help too. Although, I just got my F8 puffer's tank down to .25 for ammonia and he never acted like this one is described to do. All in all, though, a number of factors could be causing all of this or just one little thing. Try to give us more info so we can help?
