apple snail death

A couple months ago, I had just bought a male apple snail form petsmart, and it fertilized one batch of eggs. but after that, it mysteriously died. the other two females were doing just fine. The two female apple snails were the surviving two of the three i'd bought from petsmart at the same time. I don't know why only the males would die off.

Is it possible they died of old age? I know mystery snails don't live all that long. Maybe 2yrs under ideal conditions.

I bought a rather large apple snail from petsmart a few months ago, as well. I wanted a large one that could protect himself from my male betta if needed. He passed about a month after coming home, (horrible mess), and we determined it was old age. My advice would be to pick out the active small snails next time, since they are a lot younger.

Yep, I've also read that warmer water temps decrease their lifespan as well. Poor diet does too. These big snails need to be fed blanched veggies, sinking pellets, etc.. Pretty much the opposite of small and sometimes pest-like snails.

It was a very small snail(may be a couple of months or so).

I bought a very small snail a few weeks ago, and it's already getting a lot bigger. In the right conditions, they grow FAST.

Sometimes, they just aren't in the right conditions, or something health-wise happened. Just like people, every snail is different.

And, my surviving females are probably 2.25 years old.

Last time I visited china, and the automatic feeders fed too much to the fish/snail tank, so the snails grew HUGE.
