I would. I find that bulbs that color and number are very ugly. While they can be used, you might find the color rough on your eyes. You should look into anything 6000K to 10000K. 10K Kelvin bulbs give off a slight blue tint, whereas 6500K give off a slight yellow tint. Mix 'em.

I went to Home Depot they didnt have anything higher then 4000K. I went to Petsmart the jumped from 4700K to 18,000K. I talked with a guy at Petsmart he reccomended the 18,000K bulb for a planted tank. He said "I could see the plants grow." I wasnt going to spend $20 each on bulb. I found some 5000K bulbs for $7 so I picked up 2 of them. I know it isnt the best. It is a little better then what I have now. Tomorrow I will call the not so LFS to see if they have the 10,000K Bulbs in 24".

Also, the 5000k bulbs aren't that bad either. They will work well for the lower end bulbs. Now for the higher end to give the total light a good mix, in color, as well as appearance.

You can go as high as 12000k as well. The range for planted tanks can go from 5000k to 12000k. 6500k is a good in-between, as it is more like daylight. So if you find 12000k and no 10000k bulbs, go for it.

Its screw in....

ANd how do you know where the system peaks..

I went to some depot type stores today, and looked at the lighting and well many of them didn't have the spectrum or the K on them so how do you even find out..!

All they had was the lumens which is useless

I think the Hagen Power-Glo is rated at 18,000K, because it has a little thingy where it shows the Kelvin on all Hagen fluorescent tubes on my Aqua-Glo box.
It says that Aqua-Glo also has 18,000, which is what I have on my 10 gallon hex

Ok here is the update. As I mentioned earlier I bought some 6500K bulbs. I got a case of 30 for a really good price. I might be selling some. Here is the pics with the new ones.

I have 4 different K bulbs in from the top. 5000K, 2700K, then 2 6500K bulbs the pics turned out cool so you can see the different colors of them.

Here they are.

Let me know what you think.
