But I want a froggie . . . .

I think . . . .

Let's talk aquascaping now. I'd really like sand. I was thinking I wanted to tank to look quite different from my 39g, but I'm learning that ADFS like driftwood, anubias, mini terra cotta pots and smooth stones.

Hmmm, what is in my 39g? Let's take a look-see.

Your 39 is lovely!

Hmm.. frog + assortment of shrimp perhaps? Or will they get eaten? (May have missed something here...) Bettas are quite overdone in small tanks. That's why I'm avoiding one for my 9 :)

Looks like the frogs would quite like a mini version of your 39.. :p

Oh get with the program mister! Haha just kidding, but I was telling Laura over on the ADF thread that I've never had any issues with frogs and shrimp.

I agree, the 39 is lovely and a mini of the 39 would be ideal, mister is onto something! We have to persuade for frogs and shrimp...

@laura go back and re-look at these one photos http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/other-aquatic-creatures/61695-photos.html and try to say you don't want shrimp!

Okay. mini-me tank then. I have mini stones around here somewhere, a couple extra mini pots, and can do anubias nana and other mini plants. Can I find mini gravel?
Froggie(s). Some kind of shrimp. AND a betta? Or betta is too much?

I won't take over this thread, but it sounds like I need to persuade you into froggies too mister! :D

1:30 a.m., gee! It's 5:30 p.m. here.

@laura I had a frog and a betta in a 2.5 gallon when I was like 12 (shame on me), so I bet a 5 gallon would be much better. Also I know shrimp count towards contributing some waste, but they hardly leave any and I think that should be taken into consideration when saying it'd be too much for the filter. To me it sounds like a nice stocking plan, but by the obvious inhabitants of my tank I might over do it sometimes...

Don't cry Mercedes, I'm getting a froggie for sure! There's one out there named after me for goodness' sake :)

Now. Do we think that 2wpg is good enough, or am I getting poor Zack to custom make a canopy for me? I'm starting to feel impatient, I think I might end up near my lfs sometime this week, the sale is still going . . . .

Yay for froggie! And you do have one named after you :D

And for some reason I lack knowledge on CO2 plants and lights/wpg things. I can grow plants but I have no idea how many wpg I have or what I have in regards to lights...now as for the question about going to the lfs or not, I'm an absolute impulse buyer so I say yes! But the rational part of me says no, but that part isn't any fun to listen to..

Well, I don't think I'm doing CO2. With space so limited in the 5g and the place it will live in, I want as little extra equipment as possible. I might try Excel if needed, or just my regular ferts. Now I have to do some research on what mini plants I like and what they need . . . . For my mini-me tank, future home of an ADF named Mercedes!

LOL Mercedes & Laura the frogs!

I think light and ferts will be just fine and I agree on wanting less equipment I want less equipment on my 36 lol. I like dwarf saggitaria (I think that's the spelling) my ADFs like it too!

Thanks Zack! You are awesome. Will let you know - I have to figure out whether I want more than 2wpg. If I don't, it will be the store-bought kit, just because then I can start on the tank sooner rather than later, and know exactly how it will fit in my little space, and return it to the lfs if there are any malfunctions.
I still want you to build me a light fixture though - I adore your handiwork! Lemme think . . . can I get another tank in here somewhere????

Well, my evil plan is to tell hubby that #1) "it's cheaper for me to buy the whole tank kit, darling, and it will look so neat and tidy, trust me", set it up with my ADFs and whatnot; then #2) I have the old 5g and cheap plastic lid, foam filter, heater put away in a closet somewhere; so that #3) my mutant angel or others of my angel juvies breed again and, lo; #4) I must bring out the other 5g as a 'temporary measure' to raise more angel fry! Ta da! Three tanks! One with a crappy canopy that needs my random online friend from Ohio to email me at odd hours in order to custom build it for me. Nothing to be suspicious about, darling.

Okay, getting excited. Scrounged around for froggie-friendly decor that I have. Here's a pic of the sad empty tank; the nook on my kitchen counter that the tank must live in - almost flush against the back wall, not the side wall as shown; and last some small rocks 'n stuff piled sort of like my big tank's layout. Just playing around right now, I know it looks stupid the way it is.

Just wanted to weigh in, as I've got a 5 gal running with two ADF's and one veiltail betta, and I've had no problems whatsoever. Tank parameters are always where they should be, betta is not even remotely an active fish so he is quite content having this amount of space to himself, and the frogs seem happier with the shorter vertical distance they have to swim to get air. When they were in my 16 gal, I had several terra cotta pots that they loved to get in/under, and now they have a really tacky dino skull decoration in the 5 gal which they can get inside of, and they also love doing that. I also had cabomba in the 16 gal, and many times I would take a look in the tank, just to see them snuggled in amongst the leaves. Mine get specialized sinking aquatic frog pellets as well as sinking bottom feeder tablets. They are such neat little animals, it cracks me up to hear them buzzing away at night when the tank lights are off.
