I figured this would be the appropriate forum for this...
I work at a petco and i have to say this is the most irritating sale i have experienced in my year of part time work at the store. These are not the type of fish to be selling at this price...since "they are just so cute."

Thats what i hear at work all day at work. Its a constant lecture.

Another annoying fun fact: there is an alarming majority who shop based on sales completely disregarding the fish itself. People will walk with me tank to tank saying "how about this...no...what about this...and this?"

Its tempting to accidentally witness the sale sign somehow removing itself from the tanks.

Yeah I also work ata pet store and I hear the same crap. It annoys me when people do it and then you try to explain things to them and they just say well Im gonna see how it goes. I do love it though when they come back and tell me that I was right. LOL

I have yet to have someone say they will try it anyways...the average petco customer divides freshwater fish into community and 'big aggressive' so all i need to say is how they get fairly large (point out some adults we have in stock), explain differences in water parameters, feeding, tank setup, etc...and promptly recieve the deer in headlights look.

Really. How long have you worked at Petco?? Ive been working in pet stores so long now that I have heard almost everything. I had a lady come in the other day and tell me that her Common Pleco doesnt eat the algae in the tank anymore. I asked her how big he was and she said pretty big, bigger than my husbands hand. I tried to explain to her that a Plecos diet changes a bit when they get older and that she should feed him more meaty stuff and get some driftwood in her tank. She looked at me and said driftwood is expensive so Im not doing that and he eats some of the algae on a bridge she has. I was like yeah but that is enough veggies to satisfy him. She then said well hes gonna eat the algae or go hungry. I just shook my head. There was nothing that I could do.

I have been there about a year...working part time while in school. Its not to say i havent heard it all, i was just referring to this sale. I wouldnt know where to start when describing funny/sad/stupid customer comments...there are just too many and each day tops the last days comment.

Getting off topic but i am definetly going the way of a private more 'advanced' if you will shop in the area for this summer when i go full time while on summer break. What shop(s) do you work at? I see you are in groton...

.99 African sales. I would have loved to have gotten my peacocks for that little. But that only applied to mixed ½ inch babies!
Hate to say it. Our fish people in my area aren’t so smart. I have been in aquariums for over 10 years of my life. And these LPS have the worst advice/information for fish. Sometimes they aren't so bad. just most of the time.
