I just got a new 10 gal tank. While i'm thinking on how to decorate it...i'm also thinking on what kind of fish i want to have in the tank. I was thinking of gruppy or barbs. If i keep gruppy, what other fish will be compatible with them? what about barbs? which one is better or easier to keep? Any suggestion would be helpful...THANKS!! ;D

Yes guppies would be beautiful in there. Is this your first tank? I would say do some real plants but if you don't feel comfortable doing that then do some plastic ones instead. Make sure your tank is cycled before you go adding fish or anything. ;D

this is my second tank, but my fish tank is only like 1 gal, so i decided to get a bigger one...(i don't want my fish to have no place to swim) :D
well...if i decide to put guppy in...are they a kind of schooling fish? or are they fine with just a few like 3 or 4 of them with some other fishs? What about putting guppy and barbs together? is that a good choice??  8)

How about Cherry barbs an otto or two, and a couple cories.

I right now have ottoes, cherry barbs, and honey gourmis in a 10 for quarenteen. It looks pretty nice.

I have java moss, elodea, and ambula as the plants..they do ok..nice and green with not too much algae in the tank. I have a 15 watt over 10 gal, and add nothing for ferts, but a little iron and traces once a week in very small amounts.

You could keep a trio of guppies and some mollies. That would look nice but, i would stay away from barbs since you need atleast 6 of them   8)

Actually , cherry barbs are an exception. They are more comfortable in pairs IME.

Most other barbs do need groups to be happier, off the top of my head, I cant think of other that are like cherrys.

Yes cherry barbs a guppies would look great. I like Cillana's on the 4 barbs and 3 guppies. I agree with Barb on the ottoes. Maybe 2 of them and 3 corydoras. That would be an exceptional tank. Especially with live plants in there. ;D

I have found that cherry barbs do well in pairs as well as in large groups. My mom has a pair in her 5.5 gallon, my sister has 4 in her 10 gallon, I have 12 in my 55 gallon, and my dad's friend has 20 in his 75 gallon.

Another idea:
2 cherry barbs (1m, 1f)
3 guppies (1m, 2f)
2 otos
3 cories

What about puffer fish and neon tetra? I'm thinking about getting those for my tank too!!  ;D
[/quote]Not puffers. They like brakish water and they are very aggressive and a 10 gallon is to small for them. Neons are okay but they don't live long. I would stay with the barbs, guppies, corys, and ottoes. That will be a great begginers setup. ;D

How about some dwarf gourami's? They are also very beautiful and peaceful. I recommend that you do not get any barbs unless cherry. Barbs are a school fish and need room to swim around. Do not put barbs in anything smaller than 30G.

Neon Tetras are also a school fish so you need 6+. They frighten very easily if you have less than 6 (I tried it already). Stick with non schooling fish unless you get a bigger tank.
