argh @ a stupid faucet

to make a long story short, my sister doesn't take good care of her 10 gallon tank which she's had since october... and i wasn't helping, because i felt she didn't deserve my help when she puts no effort into caring for her fish... but i realized that wasn't fair to the fish.

anyway, i went to hook up my python to the sink nearest her room, and i was going to do a nice big water change. i got the washer off the faucet, and realized i have a problem.. the 'valve' on the sink that i'm supposed to hook the python connecter up to is crooked!

not only can i not get the python hooked up;; now i can't even get the washer back on. anyone ever deal with anything like this?

i'm going to go try to get the washer on again, because the fam won't really be happy when they turn the sink on and water splashes everywhere...

Second, the faucet threads are misaligned?
You may have to see about taking the faucet apart and setting it.
Or use a really good pair of pliers and force it?

I agree with GIS on this. Just a regular siphon would work on a 10 g.

well, i know this is dumb... but i'm completely inept with a regular syphon. :/ i can never get it to work properly. that's why i love my python so much.

Insert end of tube into bucket
insert the solid tube thing into the tank. Move the vacuum up and down rapidly to get a siphon started. You may need to submerge the whole tube thing for it to work.

I have a 20G that I use the conventional siphon and bucket to clean. I dont think it is worth the effort of the python all the time. If the tank is really bad the Drain some water and bring some back. You basically will fill what you removed so you can keep on cleanning. Once it is clean keep up the maint. It is a lot easire then the Ignore the tank for 2 months tank rebuild if it gets neglected.

Just put the big end in the tank, and suck on the small end until you see the water in the tube rise over the top edge of the tank. Once that happens, put the small end into a bucket and ta-da... your siphon is working...

That is how I start my gravel vacuum to siphon. But you will probably end up with a couple of mouthfuls of tasty fish-water before you get the timing right.

If your siphon has an auto start function with a flapper check valve, then you can start it the way I posted above.

i do that, suck on the siphon till water comes. one time i got a mouthful of the waste in my mouth down my thraot and up my nose.

guys, i've tried that stuff... the moving it up and down... the inserting the WHOLE tube into the water... the sucking on it and accidently drinking fish poop

its embarassing that i can't figure it out. i'll just have to keep trying til i get something to work, i guess.
