I've had one of these in my 5g betta land for a few months now. He both scavenges the bottom and sits in front of the filter outlet fanning away. Molted twice already, beautiful color.
I've even gotten very lax in my maintenance lately; no water changes in over a month(please don't flame! haha) and he is doing just perfectly.
