Still not heard anything back from the seller since, hopefully he'll get back to me tomorrow.

I've had a few thoughts on the stocking and I quite like the idea of of the following:

1 honey gourami
10 hengel's rasboras
5 dwarf or pygmy cories - alternatively cherry shrimp.

It's slightly overstocked I know but I know I can keep on top of it. I'd consider a betta rather than the gourami but I know they don't tend to enjoy community tanks such as this. Gouramis wouldn't be my first choice but I'm limited in a 10 when it comes to centrepiece fish.

Any thoughts and ideas would be very welcome please!

Hey, mk, what about a pair of chocolate gouramis or dwarf honey gouramis? They are both very peaceful and small. (Only thing with chocolates is that they need quite a high temp, like around 82-84 degrees F). I'll have to google licorice gouramis - not sure which ones they are.
I like the southeast asian theme . . . . small gouramis, dwarf cories, rasboras . . . .

Thing is chocolates are just so fussy, I'd want something a bit more hardy. Plus they need a much higher temp than the other fish I want to stock.

Licorice gouramis are lovely and would suit the theme I'm going for very well. It very much depends on availability, I think my ideal tank now would be:

2 licorice gouramis
6/7 hengel's rasbora
A few cherry shrimp

Aqadvisor would probably go mad at me if I inputted that into there, but I'm quite happy that it'll work. I'd settle for a honey gourami if I can't find licorice gouramis but I'm not sure what I'd replace the hengels' with.

I think this'll look nice, with my nice big piece of rootwood in one corner, hairgrass covering the bottom, sand substrate with a few pebbles here and there, crypts and vallis towards the back and maybe java fern, and perhaps some moss on the rootwood... hmmmm :)

I've come to the very very hard decision to not get a tank for now. I'd rather wait til I've saved some more money, I've got more to spend on my house than I thought, and my bank balance is taking a bit of a beating.

I guess I'll slowly build up the collection of things I need throughout the next few months rather than spending a load now. The tank I wanted is quickly increasing in price and by the time bidding ends I think I'll be paying more than I want to. I might have a look for some ex display or 2nd hand tanks in my LFS in the next week or so.

So yeah, plan still stands.. it'll just take a lot longer than I'd hoped! :/

I'm keeping my eye on a 55 litre/roughly 15 gallon hex tank.. it's a 20 minute drive from me so perfect location and size and a lovely looking tank.

Won't get my hopes up though.. no bids yet but with 3 days to go someone may snap it up. Starting at £20 so it could get expensive.
