Clown Loach breeding yet?

Ok, is it STILL true that nobody has been able to breed clown loaches in captivity?

I have never heard of it being done.....from what I hear they are all wild caught

I've heard the same. Some people say they have done it but there is no proof of it. Boy I tell you if I ever did it I would write down every detail.

It's been done but it's not common. The big problem seems to be most people don't keep their fish long enough to get big enough to breed

They are captive bred in Asia by hormone injection.
Guy not very far from me bred them in his fish house some years ago, the Clowns that spawned were in excess of 12".

yea the story at loaches.com is the only account that I've heard of non hormone injected breeding.

clown breeding is something i dream of. so far the largest clown loach ive kept grew to about 6" and ate like a demon. i can only imagine how much id be feeding a school of 12" clown loaches(ESPECIALLY during mating hehe)

but i figure i got some time before i grow(or "acquire") a breeding pair so i really want to make a nice sized pond to keep them in.

a pond would be the best bet,that and a little reascearch on the weather patterns on maylasia.most loaches breeding is seasonal based so the trigger has got to be somewhere in the weather.

I figured going all out. A indoor pond with regulated temperature control so I could change it with the seasons. plants that are found in the lakes and ponds around there.

but that may negate what could trigger spawning,an indoor greenhouse would be best.sunlight and the day/night cycle can be very important for fish breeding.of course in this case it may not matter at all.

Hmm... laptop....midi capable light board...dimmer pack...some Python code...that would be neat...

Create a system that would automatically run your lights in a day/night cycle...adjust the intensity of you lights to simulate ocassional cloudy days...program in the moon phases...

All you'd need then is to sort out some way to control a 2-way pump via a computer and you could simulate everything you need to make your fish feel right at home...

It is possible with a programmable chip, save on the PC.

hi i have seen baby clowns about 2-3mm long in a aquarium shop and the owner said he breed them in a planted tank but i dont now how true that is i didnt know him well
