You really do have to simulate their natural environment to the most minimilistic detail. Im not too sure if it was the report on loaches.com I read, but a guy who bread them before said that simulating the dry season helps them to spawn. By reducing the water levels you can make them think that the dry season is coming in and they will mate. Would be quite a difficult thing to do though.

I have 15 small clown loaches. They are between 3 and 4 inches long.

When they get to about 6" I plan on building two 450g indoor ponds and linking them together with a water bridge. My clown loaches love the water bridges I have hooked up right now for them on a 90g, 33g, and 6g tanks. They sure do love to explore and go from tank to tank. I just use pvc to link the tanks together.

I like the 2 pond idea because I think it would be necessary for maintenance and quarantines.

From my reseach, I think Clown Loaches spawn during the raining season. That's the time when the rivers and lakes flood. The flooding moves all the way up to the swamp forests. The flooding in the swamp forests brings a rapid change to the ph in the surrounding waters. The water turns black and very acidic, around 4.5 - 5. The drop in ph is what sparks the spawning of clown loaches. Atleast that's what I think..

They used to dance during water changes, but now they dance mostly just before feeding. They stopped dancing during water changes since I started using the Pyton Gravel Vac for water changes. I guess they don't like me adding water straight from the tap. I'll have to figure out another way for water changes one of these days. I might have to get a 55 gallon trash so I can treat the water first.
