Ive never really been in to the corys much until today while at my LFS, I saw some really cute looking albino ones. I'm thinking about maybe getting one. The thing is Ive been holding off on catfish and bottom feeders in general as I dont want a conflict with my pictus cat. Does anyone have these fish (the corys, not necesarily albino) and know if they like to hide, or are comfortable out and about the tank?
Thanks =)

albino corys are some of the most active fish i have ever seen.if you have any resevations about this fish drop them.this is an absolutly wonderful fish.if you do find a conflict with the pictus just buy a new tank for the corys.you will love them

Nevermind, I went by the LFS to pick one up and they only had a few small ones left (since a tank full yesterday). I didnt want to endanger their lives with the pictus so had to pass on them. They (the LFS) got a new shipment of ghost catfish so I got two more of them instead.

Have 2 pictus cats and a slew of corys in a 50 gal wide. Corys are melinis, albino, and jullis - about 8 total. They need to be in large groups. My julii's were shy and not moving until I got the melinis (which are my favs) and now they are happy and active with the new addition.

My pictus is about 3.5 inches and very chunky, she attacks everything in the tank, inluding gouramis that are bigger than her, thats why I was worried for the corys. Anyway I'm trying not to over crowd so I'm definately gonna have to pass on the Corys if I need to have a large group of them.

if you drop the iridescent shark that will free up pleny of room.you should return that fish anyways.id sharks are realy not a suitable aquarium fish,and hopefuly will drop out of popularity from the hobby.what clothahump said about a pictus eating a cory is true too.whoe be the foolish fish that trys to eat a cory.that will be one pointy,sharp meal

I know I have to turn in the ID shark eventually, but right now hes only 1.5 inches, if that. I once had one in the same tank for almost a year who lived perfectly happily.
Seen as though the ID shark has already been brought up, he seems sick today and not behaving like himself, just sitting on the bottom. There isnt anything that I can physicaly see that looks to be bothering him, anyone got any ideas? Please dont say that hes crampd in a 29 gallon, as Ive had mollies bigger than him.
Thanks.

well to understand your fish you should know that in the natural habatait of the id shark there is much vegitation and very low lighting.also they are very social fish and live in very large schools.id sharks are naturly nervous and known to beat themselves to death trying to escape the confines of an aquarium.try a fifty percent water change and see what happens that should perk him up for now.i love all catfish so that's why i don't like the idea of id sharks in the aquarium.no need to freak the poor buggers out.

Hmm, well I confess to leaving my light on more in the last week since I got plants, like 10-12 hours a day, so maybe that is whats stressing him out.
I dont mean to offend you or hurt/upset the fish by keeping him in my aquarium, and if his sickly behavior continues, I ofcourse will take him to my LFS.

Just to let you know, the ID shark still isnt looking well so I'm gonna see if my LFS will take him tomorrow. Its way too late for me to get credit (unless the guys feeling generous) but at least the fish will be happy =)
