ROFLMAO!!! That is crazy!:p I got a pair of convicts, and my male is about 5 inches long..Truth is, I don't keep my hand in there for very long! I got bit one time, and that was enough to scare the hell outta me!:p Now let's see if I'll stick my hand in there at all!:D

What gets real annoying is going into a tank with a school of blind cave fish. I had them once and they, apparently, thought the hair on my arms was just the tastiest treat! Nothing like getting plucked by a school of fish!

A few years ago, I was the divemaster for a scuba class. We did the openwater weekend at an old quarry that is nearby. None of the instructors (nor anyone else) had any previous experience there.

Well, that quarry contained man-eating perch!! Several students (and me, dammit!) suffered bitten earlobes, and a couple even had moles removed. I'm never going back there....

Man you must not be feedin them fish very well. I mean how hungry they have to be to eat uncooked meat. Personally I like my steak medium well ;)

Seriously though back when I kept an oscar the little bugger would get me everytime. There were sometimes when I wasn't thinking of it and it would scare the ever lovin crap outta me. Damn fish!

im to a point with my oscar that i dont even open the lids ever, unless im doing a WC or getting something out of the tank or putting something in. i drop the food in the tank right by the filter so my oscar doesnt jump at me. it always freaked me out when he jumped at me and i lost money on fish food cuz id always jump back and spill the fish food all over the place lol

You ought to try playing dominance games with your Oscars etc. Have you ever noticed how the relative height of you and your fish (cichlids) affects the way they behave?

Altitude versus attitude.

This is the same for people who have parrots and other pets. When you approach the tank standing over them they will react completely differently than if approach the tank from a lower position. I find that most of my Tangs will shy away when I or another adult approaches but will be curious and come forward if a child approaches or if I sit for a while in front and on approx substrate level.

Oh - I can dominate the buggers alright - I can even chase them around the tank by hand......but the moment I stop going for the fish and go for something else in the tank - WHACK

They come up nice and close, do that little tail shimmy, assume a slight angle - and shortly after that is a good time to count your fingers.

At the moment the Parrot has laid another batch of eggs, so even the Oscar is pinned up against the wall. He's got that "maybe we should go down the pub till she's finished" look on his face. Personaly I think he's got a point.....

Purple, when your parrot laid eggs, do they just waste away or you have them 'hatched' and develop as frys?

I had a severum spawned 3 times in 6 months but I was told that the eggs were not fertilized. Is it possible for one female to be pregnant for 2 months and spawn or my 2 severums at that time were a breeding pair?

No - the three attempts so far have been duds - but considering we're talking about a BP and an Oscar, that's not surprising. Average time for the eggs to survive is 4 days - that can be improved to 6 days by half a dose of anti-fungal meds. This particular lay was a short one - 3 days and they're gone

I would suggest that in your case you had a pair of sevs - some fish can hold for two months, but I don't think Sevs are amongst them

-=Whew=- LMAO what a thread.....

Once my wife was feeding our oscar. I had been teaching him to jump a little out of the water to get food from my finger tips. I had never been bit by him. My wife thought that she would be slick and get him to do it without any food. So the oscar jumps up and ends with her finger tip in his mouth! It was hilarious, she was just standing there shaking her hand yelling 'Get it off Get it off Get it off!' :D

I dont think that it did much mental damage to the oscar, but it did to my wife. She never feed him agian.
