favorite catfish

I'd have to say I am partial to Clarias Batrachus (a.k.a. "Walking Catfish") but I haven't seen them in the hobby for nearly 15 years. I live in Canada though, so what I see here may differ from U.S.A. or elsewhere. My Father and I had one Albino specimen and one Marble specimen back in the good ol' days, but they jumped out when we were away one weekend and we found them dried up and dead not too far from the aquarium. :(

See these beautiful kitties @ http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/clariida/clarias/90_f.php

Ashleigh: I've heard/read that C. Batrachus are so plentiful in Florida that they literally "crawl" around in certain areas on moist warm nights?! I would love to catch a marble and an albino for my aquariums... I want to have them again! I should ask Kurt @ Petland Pembina if he knows anything as to their legal status in Canada. Oh well... thanks for the input. :)

Meatwad: When did you have fried catfish?

Catfish is best when fried in bacon grease and (forget ettiquete) that's a fact!

I guess I could narrow it down to plecos but that's as far as I'll go. They're lurkers but your fish miss them when they're not there and they know because they are there ... lurking from a distance.

I'm going with the yellow bullhead. Last summer, I went to a pond near my brother's house and caught what I thought was a tadpole. It turned out to be a yellow bullhead juvie barely 1". I placed him in my 20G for a little while and his size increased to about 3". At that point, I set him free back in that pond before fall set in. A very cool fish.

My nephew thinks it's a blast to have an aunt who regularly goes wading in streams and other bodies of water in the warmer months. :p

Hey Brown Bullhead- I don't know if that is quite true :) actually, I haven't read about them in the news for some time- but certainly the fear that it would get to that point is what got them banned. walking is not an adaptation to be taken lightly in a fish, you know? But it is a shame fro the responsible hobbyists like you and your Dad who can't get them now.
