For one, or maybe even a pair, it's completely fine but it's more likely to reach 6 inches than 4. What you're forgetting is that your acei has actually lived more or less on its own other than the cories and pleco. That's why I warn about it being overly aggressive with new inhabitants because you've already seen what happened when you put a paradise fish in with it. The mbunas in your friend's tank will be used to having to share their space. I just think it could be risky.

If you want to try a mbuna tank in your future 30g, by all means do it. I just advise that you stock it lightly and keep a very watchful and still eye on the tank when you add new fish to look for any aggressive behaviour. Also, add your acei either at the same time as, or after your new fish. This will make it more difficult for him to immediately take control of his new surroundings and set up territory. If your acei continues to be a problem I'd replace him.

Really, don't feel like you can't ask for advice - we just want what's best for your fish, just like you, whilst giving you the best experience and advice we can. So don't feel like you have to keep quiet. Ultimately it's your choice what you do but members of the forum, particularly those more experienced, are very passionate about fishkeeping, and we will voice our opinion if we don't agree with something, just as you should do the same.

So don't be driven away, questions keep the forum running, we all started somewhere and sometimes it takes a bit of hard advice to get us on track as a responsible fishkeeper.

Well said and Fishman asking questions is always good just be prepared to get answers that you don't necessarily like or want to hear. That always happens to me when I go to my mom for advice. :)

Ok mister have you had any experince with Cichlid's, cause i used Aquaadvisor to come up with a plan i like and i have a plan on adding the fish, but if you've had experinced il run it by you and see what you think, the plan only includes 5 fish, should i add more and overstock it like ad advisor says to do or not, i dont like overstocking unless i can get the largest aqua tech filter (originally for a 60 gallon) for my 30 gallon.

I've had a bit of experience, dabbled if you will, but my cousin was quite a trader in mbunas a few years ago so I've picked up the majority of knowledge in helping him maintain his many many many breeding and show tanks. My only concern is that your acei has lived on its own and shown very aggressive behaviour to new inhabitants already.

Personally the only thing I see wrong with the plan is having 5 cichlids. With cichlids it's a good idea to keep an even number, and this applies to american cichlids and angels and discus too. This way, if 4 pair off, one won't be alone and bullied. Try inputting 6 into aqadvisor and see what it comes up with. With a filter like that you'll be able to stock that much, it's just aggression in case they pair off which I'd be worried about, and why personally I'd stick to 4 to give both pairs as much territory as possible in case they do in fact pair off.

Well there all different fish, so i dont think 2 different fish will pair off. I only put in ones that websites said would be compatible. Im out of fish to add so far i got a Yellow Lab, My acei, A rusty cichlid, A kenyi Cichlid, a cynotilapia afra, and a Auratus. What do you think?
